Of those 3? No hesitation, the Giant. Some say they are a little too "popular" but it has the best spec of those 3 bikes - the cheaper gear shifting system on the other 2 is no where near as good. It's (much) more expensive brother also won the Cycling Plus 2013 bike of the year (link)

A cheapo carbon might also work. If you don't mind on-line, something like this might fit the bill.

    Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a road bike under the bike to work scheme and have decided to do it online, do you know if you are allowed under the scheme to purchase a bike this way?
I was thinking of using Chain reaction cycles in Belfast but they are outside our revenue jurisdiction as the are located in the North is this allowed.

Also let me know if you have any thoughts on my bike selection (good or bad!!)
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=75435

    Thanks.

Why did you decide to do it online ? Think you will often get better value from a good LBS and a good one will include servicing excluding parts, u don't get that kinda comeback online.

If you know any LBS selling full carbon BeOne's with 105 groupsets and wheels with 105hubs and Exal XR3 rims at that price, let me know, because that looks like a fecking bargain to me.

Op, that bike is a lovely piece of kit.

You might want to consider this as well, for that sort of price but a higher sppec, lighter groupset, if you're looking for a carbon bike:

Don't get me wrong Seaneh that's a class bike and I've enquirer about framesets from beone but think LBS can offer hidden value

I do agree, there are a LOT of great deals in some LBS's, especially if you can find one that still has a few late 2012 models laying around and are trying to shift them you can get an absolute steal. But generally speaking, online is going to be a fair bit cheaper for the same spec. That said, buying online means you can't try the bike out for size and riding position, etc, so there is the advantage to a brick and mortar store there. It's all dependant on what you want and how much you know about it.

    Folks,

Thanks for the feedback - its really is very helpful. Honestly going down the online route is purely based on costs and my budget so I get the best value for money, that said I know its risky especially keeping in mind service back and having a relationship with a local shop etc.. but I've seen some generally positive feedback about buying online - this is a big first for me I’ve never really bought anything online before...

With regards to the bike to work scheme does anyone know if i can purchase through chain reactions?

    Thanks

The BTW works with Chainreaction, yes. Also works with planet-x-bikes.co.uk ;)

I think this is employer specific. I know a lot of companies restrict who you can buy from so I suggest you clear this with the company first.

There is a separate thread on here specific to the cycle to work scheme which might be of assistance.

fixed your link there, but yeah, I'd say for the price you're not going to find a better bike and in the matt black it's a lovely looking bike.

One problem people were having with that particular model was that the planet x branded breaks that came with were muck but planet x have stopped using their own break and started using sram breaks and now it's not an issue.

    From wiggle?

They aren't bad at all for the money buy you can spend an extra €100 on the planet ex and have a much better groupset (Rival vs tiagra) and better wheels... So unless you are locked into buying from wiggle I think the planetc pro carbon rival is a no brainer for at around that price point.

Other than the reviews in Wiggle's site (4.7/5 for 20 reviews) and the Bikeradar test, no.

I've read other reviews of some of their other bikes in Bikeradar/Cycling Plus and they appear to be good. At that price, you'd get a very decent bike.

The Planet X also look good, but I don't like them myself. Chainreaction's BeOne (linked to above) also looks good but is over €200 more expensive.

I don't think you will get that bike for the same price in Athlone, and you'd be waiting a while anyway.

It's worth giving them a call and asking about price and delivery time, but I doubt they will go lower than €1300 for the bike and 4-5 weeks delivery time.

They are currently out of stock and not listing a price on their website, the Planet X 2013 range is going to be released in a few weeks so I'd imagine they won't be restocking until that happens.

There is of course a warranty, but it's with the company in the UK, not the shop in Athlone, so it's return to factory for replacements etc.

The bike comes pre-assembled in a box, you just put on the wheels, turn the bars and adjust your seatpost and off you go.
