Windows 7 laptops

Im looking to purchase a laptop for my mother for her birthday soon. I wasjust wondering if any one would know of a site or store still dealing in new W7 laptops?

Want to stick well clear of W8.

you can buy a windows 8 laptop and then buy and windows 7 license and install it on the new laptop

Sorry to jump in and hijack the thread, but I'm looking to buy a new laptop as well. I haven't been looking for about 5 years now, and have been informed to try and get something with Win 7. (Does it really matter?)

I have a high powered Win 7 desktop, so just need a basic laptop, nothing fancy. Something I can do work on, and watch dvds. My work involves being online all the time...

From what I have seen, I could get something half decent for around €300/€350.....

Any advice?

I wouldn't be all that concerned with staying with Windows 8 if they're your requirements. There's a learning curve, but nothing too drastic.

It is windows 8 but I went up to a shop and had a look at windows 8 and even though I still don't like it, im sure my mother wont even notice after a few days of using the thing.

Laptop seems to have gotten good reviews, with the major problem being it feels of cheap plastic but you get that with pretty much every laptop unless you buy much more expensive ones.

If I do have to get w7, I saw that ebay does it very cheap.

Rather than start another thread, could I chime in here? As I mentioned, just looking for something sub 400e if possible. I store everything on an external hard drive anyhow, so wondering what you might recommend? Should I buy from the UK? (use parcel motel)

A few others I was looking at while shopping for a laptop.

Lenovo's touch pad are meant to be a bit ****, so I would look at them ina store first. Dunno about the acer.

I was going to plump for it, but hesitated. (Not sure why!)

Many of HP's ProBook business laptops come with Windows 7 preinstalled but with Windows 8 media in the box. Might be worth looking at if someone's dead against Windows 8.

Is Win 8 that bad? I'd be online a good bit and using Microsoft Office. That's pretty much it. I'll watch the odd dvd on it too...

It isn't really. You can pretty much avoid the new interface if you want to.
