    Hi guys

I've narrowed down search for a new car to either of these cars, I'm after a 2010 model of either one. It is more or less in the same price for both cars.

I really can't decide which to go for as I really like the look of both :D

I do 20k miles PA of mostly 75% regional roads.

So simply question which would you choose and why?

    Thanks

Neither car will appreciate the fifteen thousand miles on regional Irish roads! If I had that budget and did that sort of driving on our roads, Id bring in a 6 cylinder diesel bmw from the uk in m sport spec and put on some harder wearing wheels. Budget should allow for one on the new tax system! If you must though, get the a4 in 170 bhp guise, mind the wheels though!

But as I live in a country lane, a road that doesn't be gritted in winter, a BMW is a big no no for me :D

Any reason why you would pick the A4 over the golf?

Expand on this please as I think it is an interesting concept. What makes the BMW better than the VW or Audi in your opinion?

I must say I could think of nothing worse than an M-Sport BMW for any road that isn't completely smooth. I drove an E60 M-Sport from Portlaoise to Bray yesterday and I couldn't wait to get out of the thing to be honest.

    Cheers all,

Think i'll go for the Audi alright

    :D

Think I'll go for the 143 bhp version as reading reviews on them the 170 bhp version is suppose to be a good bit more 'harder on juice'

The A4 is a junior executive saloon, whereas the Golf is a C segment hatchback. The A4 will be bigger, and likely better equipped.

Would a Golf GTD not come well equipped as standard?

a pug 508 would be better for those roads, if you can get one.

Having previously owned an A4 S-line and a golf Gt Diesel 140 I reckon the e60 is a far nicer machine and you would get a lot more comfort and toys for your money along with a lot more power. With regards reliability and running costs I couldn't fault the A4 or golf I had but I just think the e60 is in a different league and if the OP can afford the golf or Audi then he can afford the BMW! Also, yeah the m-sport is a harsh ride but the OP was looking at sporty models!!

Hi Bean Flicker, I just think the A4 is going to be more comfortable for the mileage you're doing!! Both great cars in my opinion, used to own a gt sport 140 golf and it was lovely to drive but it had 18's which got destroyed on our lovely regional roads!! S-line A4 will be lovely!
