early 10 man break 1:10 clear they will contest the first sprint for sure.

No GC threats in the group

    A. Kashechkin, L. Warbasse, T. Dall'Antonia, J.J. Oroz, J. Van de Walle, T. Damuseau, K. Kroon, M. Keizer, M. Golas, & K. Domagalski

Lets hope they go clear and contest the stage. Its all on Katusha to chase now.

I can't see Katusha having any thoughts of picking up seconds in the sprints - Garmin have already shown themselves as up for a contest in that area - so I'm guessing that its sh1t-or-bust for JRod at the finish line. If he manages to shed Dan in the last km or two it could all fall into his lap, but its a short stage (122km / 3hrs racing) so I'd be confident that Dan and his team have the means to control the race. Hope so......

AG2R controlling the Peloton, gap is 2:20.

4/7 Dan, 5/4 Purito with the bookies.

    Fingers crossed for Dan.

I wasnt referencing them looking at picking up sprint seconds but they have to chase this to have the 10 seconds available to J Rod where as Garmin will be happy to see a break go all the way.

AG2R commanding the peleton at the moment and break up to 1:40 ahead

EDIT now up to 2:20 ahead

gap up to 3:35 and Katusha finally come to the front of the peleton

Didier Jannel précisait "des orages sont annoncés cet après-midi. Il faudra faire attention aux cassures"

AG2R directeur sportif Didier Jannel stated "storms are announced this afternoon. Care should be taken to breakage"

Should makes things harder for Katusha.

Ryder Hesjedal and Garmin just grinding out the victory I think.

Thomas De Gendt wins the stage, from Lopez Garcia and Robert Kiserlovski.

Dan Martin wins the GC by 17 seconds from Rodriguez, Scarponi completes the podium.

Biggest victory for Irish cycling since Kelly and Roche?

Great result. Strangely downbeat reaction to the victory, from the looks of the tv coverage anyway.

    EUROSPORT ARE sh*t

It wasn't really Eurosport's fault, it was more the host TV broadcaster. Did they only have 1 motorbike with a TV camera?? It was impossible to tell what was going on in the main bunch.

    Anyway, well done Dan!!

2013 has been great for Irish cyclists so far... hopefully it continues throughout the summer.

What a great win by Dan, delighted for him. Hopefully he can animate some stages in the grand tours this summer. Does anybody know what he's planning on ridding?

I'm sure he'll have a go in the Ardennes classics. He was pretty consistent last year.

The fact they didn't know where Dan was for the last hour just says it all.

    Still a great result

The leaders jersey was impossible to spot in the bunch, the commentators are not on the back of a motorbike as far as i know ;)
I do hate how they end broadcasts so soon after races and dont have an interview or show podium presentations etc, i know its not the tour but the schedule could surely allow 15mins extra, if not then include it in the highlights.

Coverage was crap, but I think it would've been better with Harmon and Kelly on.

To be fair, it may be the most unremarkable leader's jersey in world cycling. I wonder what the history is? It's not even Catalan national colours. Well suited to an Irish rider though.

In fairness they were only seeing what you saw. Who ever was the TV company did a rubbish job. Concentrating on the Spanish guy up the road (lopez) rather than following the GC contenders.

Well done Dan, great result and I doubt that you could find a nicer and more deserving person than Dan.

If you would like to meet and congratulate Dan, he will be at the DID Cycle4life in aid of Temple Street on the 4th of May in Dunboyne, Co. Meath. This will be your chance to cycle with him after his heroics in Catalunya... and hopefully before he wins his first Tour de France :-)

He's showing great potential, still only 26.

His uncle won the tour de France at 27, he looks a bit like his uncle, I reckon we'll see big things from this guy in the next few years.

Looking at Wikipedia, this is a good quality event , second most important tour in Spain.

This guy is good, he deserves all the credit he gets.

Biggest win since Roche Kelly for sure... Can't wait to watch it tonight in full.

On the coverage side of things, wasn't there a strike happening within the spainish tv company?
Pretty sure I heard something like that
