Hi I bought a SIM free HTC v one and put my 3 SIM in it and even though I can browse the net I can't get into Google Play. I keep getting connection error messages and timeout errors. What's wrong?

    Hi Kitty...

Are you using the Google Play App to connect to Play on your phone??

If so, it might help if you go to Settings/Applications[Apps or Application manager]/All/Google Play Store.....

Tap on that, you should see the App property page....[latest version is 3.10.14]

Tap on Clear data....and Clear cache.....

Then launch Play from your Home Screen, or App Drawer.....

you will be presented with a Terms of Service screen, which you must accept, and it will show your e-mail address used on your phone....

Play should launch OK, you can go into settings, and set up your preferred options, like notifications, auto-add widgets, Google AdMod Ads, all of which I personally turn off, my preference.

    Hope that helps, OK.

If not, post back here, also, try logging into Play via your Browser, on Android,

    https://play.google.com/

    and see what happens....

you should be prompted to Open it with Play Store App or Browser

select the Browser, and either log in, or perhaps you are already logged in.

See what you can do from there....you should be able to install apps from the Browser too.....just to check.

Anyway, if you can do the above first, lets see what happens!!

Are you on WiFi or Mobile Data[3G or H+]??

Is you APN set up OK for 3??

    f you don't know, ask!

I have done pretty much all the above. My mobile connection is not as good as it was in my old android handset which was locked to the 3 network. How can I check my APN? This is the first handset I have ever bought which was unlocked to all networks. Just checked and APN is set to 3.

The APN is only important if you are using mobile Data, like 3G or H+[HSPA]...

the phone being unlocked is an advantage, in relation to choice of Network.

Was the phone branded with provider apps, like 3 stuff, or did you buy it in this Country?? That could be important, in relation to the Radio/Modem used.

Is it the same on WiFi, your home network, if you have it, or public WiFi Hotspot?

Are you using the App? What version?

Have you selected Update over Wi-Fi only in Play Settings?? Important......uncheck this if you use your Mobile Provider Data!!

Can you sign-in to Google Talk [labelled Talk on your phone], with your e-mail address?

What results did you get when you cleared data and cache in Play App? Could you log in OK?

How is it when you connect with your Browser, on the phone or your PC....

does it show your device in My Orders and Settings, bottom of page, click link, opens in My Account Settings Tab shows devices/phones which are linked.

Can you download by selecting an app in the Browser, say on your PC, does it get pushed to your phone?

Sorry for all the questions, but it helps to know.

    Cheers

Hi I was able to download an app finally. It took a bit longer than normal but at least it downloaded. My phone wouldn't have things that a 3 handset would so would that make any difference?

The most common cause of being able to access the internet and not the Play store is having the time and date wrong. Perhaps you at some point fixed that while you were doing what irishpancake told you.

Why would the time and date be so important?
