Men and beauty salons

My mam is going away today and she has 150 voucher to a beauty salon in the city center. Anyway she was telling me this yesterday and then suggested that I should use it as she won't be able to as it's going to expire next week.
She must think I'm ugly or something, who knows.

Anyway straight away I was completely dismissive of the idea and she then went on to say how there are lots of men going to them these days. I wouldn't disagree with her on that, but I'd imagine it's mostly older men going with their wives or something.

Anyway, I'm not sure if I'd feel comfortable going to a beauty salon, but if I don't the voucher will most likely be wasted. Well perhaps she's already given it to friend but for argument sake would I be mad to use/not use it?

    What's a girl to do!

What any male boardsies go for a facial? Get the eyebrows waxed perhaps? Remove that back hair? Or go even further south? I find shaving a pain in the 'arse', should I get my facial hair removed with a laser permanently? Would I look ridiculous with an overnight tan?

How would women fell if their boyfriend started regularly visiting beauty salons? I don't think Irish women like their men to be so vein. Whereas in other countries it seems to be encouraged.

I'm sure I'll be in for some interesting replies.

Sell them for €100 and go to the pub instead.

I'll take it if you don't want. For that amount you'd be able to get a good hour and a half deep tissue massage. Nice and relaxing. I'd kill for a 15 min one about now

There's a few Thai Massage places opening around Dublin lately, if the internet has thought me anything... :pac:

My girlfriend never gets the reference when I make the joke. :(

Yeh, after a few pints even the Elephant Man would think he looked handsome if he caught a glimpse of his face in a mirror.

I really don't get why it's so shunned in this country for guys to look after themselves?

Go on and treat yourself, a good facial can do wonders, you might be surprised.

Go for it! Loads and loads of men visit salons on a regular basis. They might not tell you but they do. It doesn't have to be waxing, tan etc. Get a nice facial and massage! You'd be mad to waste it!

Why would you not feel comfortable? As a therapist, I've worked in quite a few salons and spas and I can tell you that half of my clients were men!

OR I could just PM my address to you and I will gladly use it for ya :D

A few years ago I was considering going to get my chest and arse waxed. Before I did so i remembered that I'm neither a woman nor a homosexual

Honestly I think I'd try and sell it and head to the pub as suggested. I think the only acceptable treatments for a man to get are massages, or perhaps some facial type thing if it really is just going to go to waste.

It's like a sports massage, pretty much the same thing. No "happy endings", other than utter relaxation. They just dig really deep when massaging. It's like it's the very point where it's almost/just too painful. When it's done you could sleep for Ireland.

    Seriously, get one.

    Hairy backs are disgusting.

Unfortunately, as you get older the hair stops growing on your head and out of your ears and back instead. I get a back wax early summer so I dont scare people on the beach.

I wouldn't go to a beauty salon, mainly because I'd end up looking the same as I do now again in a few days. I also wouldn't pay to get a (face) shave in a barbers because my stubble would grow back the next morning. It just seems like a waste of money.

Go and use it Teddy. Get a facial, a massage, a manicure.

Bit of grooming makes us all feel good, no one's going to see you (or laugh!).

And you will enjoy a nice girl fawning over you for an hour.

Facial, as in the porn move? This is hideous stuff Teddy, worse than touching someones earphones!

I was a receptionist in a beauty salon, we were really cautious about men. 9/10 times they rang to ask if I could describe the massage for them or other creepy stuff like that.

I wouldn't see any point in going. I hate massages for one thing.

Teddy go get the full works and show us before and after photos.

It be great craic, we wont laugh or judge. Promise.

I'm not implying we want to see your arse either BTW.

Maybe try an Indian head massage? That's pretty manly and really good for destressing etc. Any kind of massage would be good really.

I went on a spa day recently and there were two couples there and the men seemed to be loving their treatments. Was a bit weirded out at first but sure why shouldn't men get a bit of pampering?

    There you go.
90% of men who get massages are perverts - apparently.

The only safe course of action OP, is to burn the vouchers and use the flames to cook a steak.

    Seriously, get one.

Deep tissue massages are excruciatingly painful. The main reason I felt so relaxed (and almost elated) after enduring one was because it was finally over.

I'm convinced people are mistaking relief for relaxation.

An s&m dungeon would probably be cheaper, and probably more fun.:)

I occasionally go to hair salons to get my hair cut. I've had long hair for years so if it ever needs sorting out I won't let a barber near it since the last time I did they made a complete balls of it. About 3 or 4 times the price, but totally worth it. The best part is getting your hair washed before they start cutting it, I've no idea why, but it relaxes the hell out of me. And they give you coffee too. Seriously, when it comes to this relaxing/self-treatment stuff the ladies are waaaaay ahead of us. Fukk it, give it a try.

*goes to call Peter Marks to book a trim*

Pah, and wemminz are supposed to have a high pain threshold! :P

I love them, it's the only thing that sorts out my shoulders and back. I spend far too long crouched over a pc and carrying the dead weight of a baby awkardly.

Christ dude, you must know some hairy women, I've never had to get my arse or chest waxed :P

But to answer your question Teddy, I say go for it, I wouldn't like a primped guy but there's no harm in getting a hot stone massage, you go get your hot stones massaged.

    It's free, why wouldn't you? :P

But if your doing your eyebrows, or whatever, then they'll probably keep it subtle (I think)
