I am thinking of making a forum that would be for everyone in ireland. I am happy with a normal generic forum like this one.
How do I set up the forum and also how to get a address for it. I just feel it is going to be too difficult. I mean I've no idea how to do it. But what is certain is that forum needs to be created, because there is none. And i do not think that boards would be a good place for it.

There's no way you could easily meet the users Boards have. You would be better of starting with something you're interested in and more specific, e.g. gardening in Leinster and discuss advice and soil types and so on. You would need to get forum software, hosting and a domain name.

You need a bit of technical skills, and will need to do some SEO and promoting, e.g. in local newspapers etc.

You would need a domain name and hosting. When you start of shared hosting would suffice and can be gotten for around €20 a year. A .com domain name would be around €7 and a .ie would be around €15. Anyone can register a .com but a .ie is a restricted registry so you need to be able to prove a 'right' to register a specific domain name. You can find the regulations here.

Most hosting package come with a form of one-click install programs such as softaculous. Which would allow you to install a forum script extremely easily. Most good hosts would do it free of charge. phpBB seems to be the most popular. Once it is installed, find a nice template, install the template and then it's just about getting users to sign up.

    Basically the steps are:

    1) Register Domain Name
    2) Purchase Hoting
    3) Install forum script via one-click install software
    4) Install a template
    5) Get users to sign up

And what I would like to tell here is installing or creating a forum easy, by spending few days you would create a nice looking forum on any platform like vBulleting, PHPBb, SMF etc. But challenging part is managing the forum, promotion of your forum. If you have promoted your forum then you would be getting visitors to your forums, but most of them may not be real visitors, some of them would be boat, some of them would be real and some of them would be participating to promote their stuffs.

So you have to moderate your forum actively, or you can hire a moderate for your forum, this is very challenging part in forum management.
