I'm constructing a garage and am thinking about building the ground floor with concrete blocks (space used for storing turf, etc) while the upper level will be of timber frame, an insulated pod/room if you will. Any thoughts on this? Is it viable to construct one above the other? Issues? Thoughts? Thanks :)

Most things are possible if you obtain the right help. Do you have any online images of the kind of thing your thinking of ?

no images yet no... would work along the same principles as a typical Swiss chalet though I guess, heavy masonry base with lighter structure above. Because it's basically a room above a garage, the eaves of the roof would bear on the masonry structure while the two gables would be filled with the timber structure. I'm just thinking aloud here!
