The other half is looking at a 2005/06/07 Mazda 3 1.4, has anyone any experience with them? I know no-one who has ever even owned a Mazda so know very little about them tbh...any big things to look for when going to view one? Cheers

I changed from 02 Almera 1.5 to Mazda 3 1.4 prefer the mazda for comfort and ride quality only fault i have is oil consumption 1L every 1200km , but I buy 20L drum at a time to save a few quid

Really my 1.4 doesn't drink that much oil.

I have had two, have seen how it held up in a crash and was happy to replace it with another.

The interior is a kinda plastic, if you can get the comfort spec the seats are a bit better and nicer material and the dashboard is all black instead of the really cheap grey.

I personally wouldnt be overly gone with the 1.4it is a bit underpowered as its a heavy car.
Ive had very little trouble with them.

However when you do parts are not as cheap as you might expect.

Overall they are a good car.

Parts can be expensive but the flip side to that is that generally they tend to give very little trouble. The 3 uses the Ford Focus platform but the handling is less sporty than the Focus. 1.4 engine is made by Mazda and has nothing in common with the 1.4 engine found in the Focus.

Comfort is the basic spec model, Touring is the higher spec model and the best one to go for. Touring adds rear electric windows, cruise control, multi-function steering wheel and air conditioning over the Comfort. Hatchback was the only one available in 1.4 litre, saloon was 1.6 litre only.

It also adds much nicer seats than the comfort, in fact the whole interior in general is much nicer in the touring compared with the dreary bland grey interior in the comfort models.

Are the 1.4 engines prone to heavy oil consumption?

Also are they a chain driven engine does anyone know?

    Cheers
