Why ? Why in Lords name do today fm persist with this guy as cover ? He, I'm sure is a lovely guy but tonight covering for Colm O sullivan he starts talking about North Korea being a nuclear threat in one of his links !!??? I mean it had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the music or any context other than on The Last Word. Like many dj's Tim is another example of a guy who clearly never gets airchecked, he obviously just says the first thing that comes into his head and clearly has lost sight of the fact that he is presenting a music programme, yet heres a guy presenting on a national broadcaster, it defies belief. He'll be hired by the geniuses over in Montrose next ..

Aare you just going to scan the dial to see who you think should be airchecked? if so I suggest you change the title of this thread.

Tim Kelly is a professional producer/broadcaster. End of..

    You are joking, aren't you?

The guy's a joke in the industry. Professional, my arse.

The last time I had the misfortune to hear him on Today FM (must be nearly 2 years ago) , he was prattling on about some small time pirate station he was involved with in the 1980's. The story he told wasn't even even true, but he thought it was a funny story and worthy of relating to the entire country ..... go figure.

    He's a tosser. End of...

How he ever got a gig on Today FM is beyond me and many others in the business. The fact that he's not on a regular shift may be relevant.

ok. I've been given a warning by bbability about personal abuse. I accept that Tim kelly may not be a tosser. ;)

He never shuts up about his ghost hunters either, music he plays is grand though.

This is a radio forum is it not and im entitled to my opinion as ,long as I'm not makling a personal attack Im merely making an observation regarding Tim kelly, hence Tim kelly's name is in the title of the thread. Air checking of dj's is very much neglected in Irish radio, Tim kelly is an example of this neglect in my opinion, thats all im saying.

Not a fan of his, but I think (and I may have made this up in my head a long time ago and now pass it off as fact) that he is a higher up in Today FM and is basically cheap cover.

I hear Tim Kelly is suing Steve Coogan for a share in the profits from all the Alan Partridge programs.
    Can't imagine why...?

Hi All, first off, I have to agree with Heybaby, air-checking is almost non existant in irish radio stations. I think Tim kelly has one of the most unique radio voices I have ever heard and he is very easy to listen to. If the content of what he says is rubbish, then its the PD's fault and not Tim Kelly's. And on a side-bar, DJ's don't select their own music to play, it is playlisted, so I cannot understand why so many people on this forum praise individual DJ's music, it's usually the same as everone else's on the station

I've started my own aircheck service

Ah the poor chap he always gets these fill in slots where he seems to be out of his depth a bit and just goes along with what he has to.

I'd imagine he'd be quite good on a current affairs show it something rather than a contemporary music, where lets face it, he probably doesn't have much interest in the music he's playing I.e the colm O'Sullivan show

Well the show he was covering this week, The colm o sullivan show, is usually a specialist music show whith an indie / alternative slant, whereas the music on it this week was regular Today fm music similar to music Darcy ' Dempsey would play. As someone said earlier Tim wouldnt pick the music he plays, thats the music directors job. Tim Kelly much like Phil cawley are deemed to be staff and arent freelancers so basically on the books for the long haul. Phil I think is very good, very natural and is wasted in his current bit-part role.

I'm pretty sure that Phil Cawley IS the music director in Today fm.....

I commute a lot and in the early years could not for the life of me - stand him, he has however grown on me, and I like him now when he fills in on the 5-7am show.

He randomly throws in thoughts and ideas and plays songs for ages that I think its a automated jock on,

but his music taste is good - seemingly that time of the AM they play what they like, he never plays the run of the mill daily pop stuff louise duffy plays - his is usually an older type of selection.

I do like him now - he's a bit like an oul uncle at a wedding!

Well it seems Im not alone in thinking there are better alternatives to Tim kelly on Today fm , as now they themselves have decided to give Alison Curtis his Sat and Sun mornings.

Tim Kelly is the greatest DJ this country has, D'arcy and his clan are overrated and overpaid, Tim is the same as us, trying to pay bills and earn a living, a normal man living next door. He's a good mate so go **** yourselves you up-all-night ****s.

He's the best in the land, that Ray Foley fella shoulda been sacked years ago and Tim shoulda got the slot, TK is a legend of a man, the greatest DJ ever in my opinion. Terry Wogan and co need to take note, TK is the greatest.

    Careful now

He is the greatest though, seriously. He talks about interesting topics and plays all the classics, and has the smoothest voice around. He's smoother than silk that fella, gorgeous voice. Lovely man.

Not trolling, just having a decent debate about radio. Not all of us troll. Just because we have a different opinion. Guarantee you this thread will be locked now because I gave my opinion. That will prove my point. Go on.
