Getting rid of an old car, scrap it or other option?

I have an old 01 Polo and the power steering went on it a few months ago, I've been driving it away since but the NCT is due next month, which it's not going to pass. I took it to the mechanic and he told me it needs a new power steering rack which would cost more than the car is worth.

I've decided to share my gf's car for the time being so I won't be using it for a trade in. Is selling it for scrap the best/only option? How much should I looking to get for it?

€300 would be a decent price. Since you can drive it to them you should get money for it.
