Audi MMI to iPod Lightning connector

I want to connect MMI ('11 A4) to a new iPod Nano 7 and be able to access my songs etc via MMI/steering controls etc.

Now you'd think this would be relatively straightforward and it is - if you own an older Apple product (pre Lightning connector)

There are a myriad of cheap Lightening adapers but on closer inspection they are only really for charging. Apple charge upwards of £25 for this piece of kit alone.

Audi are quoting €45 on their website and even at that I'm not sure if it connects to Lightning.

Surely it can't be too hard to match up Audi to Apple products without being gouged? On second thoughts...Audi..Apple...gouging..guess it par for the course with 'premium' brands...

I checked about a month ago with Audi to see if they had the new connector for an I-Phone 5, and there wasn't anything available - so it's either an adaptor (Apple or Chinese copy) or music some other way.

You could get a decent size SD card and use that for music.

No AMI cable for Iphone 5 due until at least the summer I hear. Apple apparently a nightmare to work with in terms of info sharing with car engineers.

I've consciously stayed away from Apple products up until now and I'm still not convinced. iTunes a pain in hole as well if internet connection is anyway slow...

Anyway, it's hard to believe there's no easy (official) way to mate the latest Apple products to VAG!
