New Archbishop of Canterbury to be enthroned today!

    The New Archbishop of Caterbury is to be enthroned today (Thursday 21st/ March).
    He will replace the outgoing Archbishop Dr Rowan Williams, who will be a hard act to follow!

    And I gather, for the first time in history, it will be a woman doing the enthroning. A sop to the recent failure to get female bishops approved?

    The service is taking place now on BBC News, BBCHD, Sky News, etc, so I'm told.

    No. The Archbishop is always enthroned by the Archdeacon, and Sheila Watson was appointed archdeacon since 2007, several years before the "recent failure". Plus, when she was appointed, nobody could have known that Williams was going to resign when he did.
