It seems quiet on the mid/low-tier front. The Huawei G300 and Galaxy Ace 2 don't seem a big enough upgrade from my current phone (original ZTE Blade). Wonder when the new generation of mid-tier phones will be announced from the mid-tier manufacturers.

Acer have their Liquid E1 due - which seems worse than their own, (already released & similarly priced) CloudMobile S500 (terrible battery life, btw). [Link]

Hard to know with Huawei as they, apparently, don't release the vast majority of their phones outside of Asia. They're making a push to become a premium player with their Ascend P2 and D2 phones (which will have a premium price) It is a bit of a head-scratcher that they're releasing a phone (Ascend G510) that's worse than its direct predecessor (the G500). I have still have a ZTE Blade and its slowly dying :P
I was looking for something like yourself, which led me to look at Chinese phones.
Other options where second hand Galaxy S2 but Im going to get the Nexus 4 next month.

The nexus 4 is the obvious choice.however it would be nice to have the option of a spare battery and expandable memory. Also the horror of trying to get one is off putting.

I dunno about the Blade but I've had the G300 and the Ace 2 and theres big difference between them. Maybe not on paper but in real life there its a much better device, the dual core in the ace makes a vast difference, the camera is in a different league, as is the screen. The G300 is great for the price, I really liked it, but the Ace 2 is much better. The Ace 2 is on 2.3.6 but JB is expected. The difference between that and the Blade must be vast.

However the Ace 2 too expensive new, you can get them around 130~150 2nd hand. The new price is too close a used Galaxy SII which go for 250~300, or a new Xperia P. The P is stuck on 4.0 AFAIK. One thing on the Ace 2 is the power button its in an odd place, on the side.

Xperia SP looks promising. Hopefully it will be under €350.

A couple of days ago, press shots of the Huawei Ascend G700 were leaked. Love the idea of having a 5-inch screen but, with the significant bezel, it might not be 'pocketable' enough.

The ZTE V987 announced in January is now called the ZTE Grand X Quad for some reason. Wonder if that re-branding means we'll be seeing it outside China anytime soon.
