usb ports..help please.

    Hi folks I have a newish fujitsu lifebook and last night for some unknown reason the 3 usb ports have stopped working,,when i plug anything in it doesn't even recognise it. It's windows 7 ,,oh and i know my way around a laptop like 10 year old doing brain surgery so plain english please...:o

    i assume since its newish its windows 7

    click start, type computer management

    open it. click device manager

    it will list all hardware on your laptop

    is universal serial bus controllers there? if not its possible that they are fried and wont work/need replacing.
    if there is any hardware there that is unknown or ? beside it. then its likely that the drivers need to be reinstalled. right clicking and install driver might fix it.
    either way that will be a good tell as to if theyre faulty or just being picky. there can be usb locks on laptops also which prevent them being used (so people cant steal your stuff using a usb)
    could be a simple setting somewhere, but i have never used em so wouldnt know...maybe a recent program you installed, though a system restore as the guys suggested above would have fixed that i assume...
    lets see if theyre still working first anyway
