Low Sugar Fruit Smoothies

Recently started running, cycling and just generally getting into fitness. I'm not overweight but wanted to get a bit leaner so am trying to cut down on carbs a bit and eat more protein. Another thing I want to do is try and cut out sugar.

One of my problems though is that I don't eat fruit. Just don't like it at all.
So, recently, I've been drinking smoothies so I am getting fruit into me.
The problem with the smoothie I'm drinking though is that I've been told its high in sugar.

    It consists of:

One cup of orange juice, half a cup of low fat natural yoghurt, 2 bananas, 2 kiwis and a cup of strawberries.
One mix of that makes two pints which last me two days, a pint a day in the morning.

What I'm wondering is could people recommend other ingredients that are low in sugar?

I've been told I should go with water instead of orange juice, low fat greek yoghurt instead of the low fat natural yoghurt and cut the bananas to just half a banana as bananas are high in sugar.

What fruits would people recommend for me to mix in though that are low in sugar? Or indeed what ingredients? Are the kiwis good or bad? I'd imagine they are high in sugar also.

If you don't like fruit then just don't eat it.

Get your 5 a day from vegetables.

And that's where we hit a problem. I don't like vegetables either.

ALL of them? You don't like every single vegetable there is? Cooked different ways? Really?

That's what I said. To be honest you're not being at all helpful. I asked for comments re low sugar fruit.

You've gone off on a tangent about vegetables.

If I wanted to know about veg, it'd be in the thread title.

OP Here is a good link : http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/whattoeat/a/whatfruit.htm

I make my own Smoothies using the following:

    1/2 Banana
    4 Strawberries
    8 Blueberries
    4 Blackberries
    125g Greek Yogurt
    4 Ice Cubes
    1/2 Cup Water
1/2 Cup Low Sugar Orange Juice

    Makes about 1 Pint

I think the gist of it is that you are going to have to expand your food horizons.
TBH. Its pretty dam impossible to hate all fruit and all vegetables you need to go out there and find some that suit your palette. Grinding up everything into a smoothie is a short-term fix.

Fruit is sugar, hard to find low sugar sugar.

Plenty of veg that you would like that you could blend into a smoothie.

    Any that you'd suggest?

As far as I know berries contain less sugar then any other fruit...
    open for correction..

I know you mentioned you don't like veg but you could make a veg/fruit smoothie. Sounds wrong but if you add the right stuff it can taste pretty nice.

Look online at different recipes and experiment.
Most of the time you can't taste the veg.

heres an example you could try.

    1 apple
    1 celery
    1 cucumber
    half carrot
    lime juice
    Ginger
(i use a juicer for this)

    another (more of a smoothie)

    hand full of spinach
    hand full of kale
    2 tbsp Greek yogurt
    half scoop of vanilla whey
    hand full of strawberries
    small squeeze of honey
    some water

    tell us what you like,
and what you would want it to do.
carrots and peppers and celery make a good mix.

apple celery water and a slice of lemon is a nice energy drink.

carrots, beetroot, and chili is quite a good booster.

nothing beats actually eating the veg tho, no need to smoothie anything

    Fruit is sugar.

I just don't get the point of making a smoothie full of fruit (sugar) if you are trying to be healthy hence why I suggested veg.

I assume you are an adult yes? The act like one. Try different veg, cooked different ways etc. Don't assume you don't like ALL veg. Saying you don't like veg is like saying you don't like meat. Not all meat is the same.

Spinach, kale, cucumber, carrots and celery are all nice in smoothies.

Anyway if me saying all that is being unhelpful then I'll leave it.
    Peace out Seacrest.

You can add condescending to unhelpful. See the replies above - they are helpful. You are not.

I asked for advice. Not a lecture from some jumped up reprobate.

Apparently you can throw spinach into a whey shake and not notice it.

I don't disagree but there are ways of putting things or giving opinions and I wouldn't be a fan of the etiquette used above.

a few days late but I can confirm that spinach can be added to smoothies without any noticeable change in flavour

does turn my mocha breakfast smoothie a strange greenish brown colour but it's still delicious and now with added vitamins A,K and magnesium!
