Does it randomly come and go?

I had a well used X-Trail CVT during the snow a couple of years ago and that would start trying to shake itself to death at motorway speeds, for a couple of KM, then would just right itself.

No idea what it was, and it got sold as soon as the weather improved, but I suspect it was an issue with the gearbox rather than wheel bearing / wheel balance.
