Triban 3 is more than half decent. Cheaper than the 5. Leave you a few € over from your €600 for the extra bits and pieces.

I recently bought a Drag Master Comp and it was €650.

Am never going to be doing huge miles (<100) and am only starting out cycling and it suits my needs perfectly.

Quick hijack, what else would people recommend to buy as well? I, like the OP am considering getting a road bike to get back in the saddle for fitness. I was thinking

    1. Helmet
    2. Shoes.
    3. Cycling clothes, top, shorts, rain gear.
    3. Puncture repair kit.

Anything else advised? I was also thinking of getting a roof bar mount, I have the roof bars already, for getting to far, but nice cycle roads.

I got bike / helmet / padded shorts & gloves for now. I have long shorts that I got for running and wear the padded shorts over them.

Thanks for reminding me on the puncture repair kit!!

I already have good rain gear for playing golf / motorbike - have only used them on the MTB though. Also have a bike rack for the last few years.

this Sensa Umbria Sora Special looks good value from merlin and just within the OP's budget. for another €100 there's a similar model with Tiagra groupset

oops - sorry just read the small print at the bottom of the page. They don't ship to Republic of Ireland
