    Hi there,

Can anyone help me with this problem please? I am unable to read my ebooks which I have finally managed to transfer to an SD card. Ebooks are in epub. I have an android tablet 4.0 version. When I open the book it offers me two options to open - Contacts and HTML Viewer. Do I need to download an app or something ? I have been looking on line for help but can't really find anything that I understand ( it took me nearly two days to unlock tablet as still have a 1980's phone and not used to swiping).

Any help would be much appreciated

    Thanks

    Aldiko is good, no doubt

but you might want to read your e-books in the Kindle App, which looks good on tabs.

You will need to convert your .epubs to .mobi, the Kindle standard format...

you can do this with software called Calibre, download from this site:

    http://calibre-ebook.com/

No only will Calibre convert these files, but you can send the .mobi book files to your Kindle, by e-mail to your joe_bloggs@kindle.com Kindle address, or directly to your device, wirelessy or by USB....from within Calibre!!!

It is also the ultimate management tool for e-books.

BTW, another ereader I have used is Cool Reader....which supports sooooooomany formats, including epub and mobi.

Finally, check out Mantano, lite version here

It is recommended for Tablets!!! There is also a paid version, if you like it!!

    You are spoilt for choice.

    Happy reading!!!

Hi Irish and thanks for reply,

I have calibre on my laptop and put Kindle on my Tablet. But really had no success. The Kindle app was unable to read or recognise the ebooks. Maybe I had the wrong format but when I downloaded Aldiko it was able to recognise which books were in epub (and import) and many were in mobi (which Aldiko couldn't recognise or import). So I don't know what was wrong with the Kindle app or more to the point - what I was doing wrong.

Thanks for all the advice and I will keep it for future reference. I have the tablet for almost a month now and this is the first success I have had !! I got the tablet for email, reading books and films on holidays ( backpacking in Greece) and was getting really fed up messing around with it - hence the post here. Sorry I didn't post sooner now !

    Thanks again Irene

    Good Day Irene...heh heh!!

No doubt Calibre has a little learning curve....but it is worth it!!

You will first need to ensure your have your Kindle App registered at Amazon...when you install it should ask for your details, etc.

If you don't have an Amazon account, you can set one up during the Kindle App install process.

Then you can go here to manage your Kindle App:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/digital/fiona/manage?ie=UTF8&ref_=sa_menu_myk&#manageDevices

You need to be logged into Amazon to do this, using the details you set up your account with.

Also, you can set up your documents here:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/digital/fiona/manage?ie=UTF8&ref_=sa_menu_myk&#pdocSettings

the send-to kindle e-mail address can be managed there, as can your archiving options.

    And there is much more....

So, to convert with Calibre, you need to go to wherever the ebook is on your PC/Laptop....this where my epub is stored, I downloaded this from Gutenberg.

This is what I do first, [I select and right-click to get the open with option]:

    Download_epub.jpg

I choose Calibre...it may be your only choice, but I have another reader!!

Back to Calibre, to convert epub to mobi, see here

This is what you see, after importing the book into Calibre:

    Calibre.jpg

Select your book, shown below, and click Convert books button on top:

    Calibre_convert.jpg

I'll be back with Part II tomorrow, OK!!

I've tried all the ebook readers on Android and iOS (to the best of my knowledge) and by far the best is FBReader (android)
