Was looking into getting a SGS3 but saw that the S4 will be out soon. The cheapest I found was €470 simfree. Will the price drop much after the release of the S4. I'm nit in a rush so could hold off till May maybe.

More than likely there will be, but to be honest, you would have better luck getting a deal on someone selling their Galaxy S3 if they are upgrading to the Galaxy S4.

Doubt there'll be many upgrading from S3 to S4, there isn't much point

There is always early adopters who wish to have the latest and greatest.

Also, since the Galaxy S4 has upgraded nearly every aspect, I see a lot of people upgrading.

True, but I'd almost consider it except for the fact that the S4 has a 5.2" screen. I don't care how good the specs a phone has but anything bigger than the S3 is far too big. I don't even like the size of the S3 as it is.

An S4 mini with a 4.5" would be prefect for me. I'm dreading to see the size of the screen on the S5, probably 5.5"+ or something crazy like that.

The Galaxy S2 is still about £350 so I doubt the price will drop much.

Yeah but not enough to justify a new phone even an upgrade price of €200 would be too much. Anyone with sense will hold for the S5.

    The GS4 is more like a GS3.5

    What??

It's a 5-inch display and the Galaxy S4 is in fact smaller than the Galaxy S3. They increased the screen size but decreased the overall bezel.

    S4
    136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9mm

    S3
    136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6mm

Correct, it's actually smaller than the s3 but the screen is bigger.

Would be wrong to think people aren't going to upgrade to the s4.
People said the s3 wasn't worth upgrading to when it came out yet it's one of the most popular phones of all time.
S4 will be a great device. End of.

As for a price drop - unlikely, the second hand market is where the biggest decline will occur.

You would be hard pushed to get a good used S2 for less than €175 and new for less than €250 and that's nearly 2 years old now so I can't see the S3 dropping dramatically. Cheapest I can find the S3 at is €425.

Smartphones are holding their value for longer now because there isn't really too much that can be improved on them in future releases which is evident in the S4's release and all the comments about it being more of a S3.5 or S3S (like Apple).

You might have better look getting the One X, One X+ or Xperia T cheaper as they wouldn't be as popular as the S3.

There's always the option of a Nexus 4 for about €375 if you can get around the UK Play Store.

Either way if you aren't in a rush it really can't hurt to hold off. You may see a price drop next month with people trying to sell off their old stock before the S4 arrives although with its popularity I doubt it and if there is going to be a price drop due to the S4's release I don't think it will be for a month or 2 afterwards.

Thanks all, I'll hold on for a while anyway but I'd be happy to spend low 400s on it simfree anyway. Dontthink I'd go 2nd hand as I intend to keep it a while. My HTC desire (bravo) will be 3 years this July and still going strong! I was looking at the nexus but lack of SD slot is putting me off. I like to have the option of just pulling the card out if I brick the phone.
