Since my last thread my budget has upped to around 700-900 as opposed to my previous 500..I'll re answer the Q's for ye:

1. What is your budget? 700-900 (will go higher if required)

2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? DayZ, BF3, BF4, Far Cry 3, Minecraft, Skyrim and older games. I'd like to run these as high as possible, I'll also be listening to music and watching a couple movies.

3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Yes, Win7

4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No, I may have a salvageable HDD but it's only 120Gigs

5. Do you need a monitor? No

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? 1080p 32" Television.

6. Do you need any peripherals? I'll need a Keyboard and mouse

7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Maybe.

8. How can you pay? Paypal, bank transfer, card.
9. When are you purchasing? Mid-April all going well


I want a good rig that will be future proof for games like BF4. I am completely switching over from xbox now, pc is just better!

I've been looking at the GTX680...I'd really like that card as it looks built to last, can it happen? I'll leave the component searching up to ye! (Please and thanks in advance)

Went for an amd build so I didn't have to cut too many corners elsewhere. The 6300 is on par or close to the 3570k in most recent games. There's a lot of overclocking headroom on both the cpu and gpu as well. A gtx 680 will be €450-500 so unless you cut everything else down to barebones it just isn't going to happen on that budget. The card is not worth the money anyway. Overclock that 7870xt and it will be close to stock 680gtx performance levels for less than half the price.

No problem.

Yeah it will be fine with those parts. If you decide to add a second card or upgrade your processor down the line you may need something with more power. AMD are sticking with AM3+ for at least another generation of cpus anyway so there will be upgrade options down the line.

If you want to spend the extra now for something that will have the power for a second gpu or a higher power processor then this should do the trick.

Brilliant, once I've got everything and put it together I'll take a look at overclocking and see if it's really as easy as some people make it out to be!

Wow, well spotted!

As for the SSD, I'm cool, maybe down the line when I have the money again I'll add one in!
I like the look of the Intel build, the reviews for both processors and that GPU are all extremely positive.

Decisions, decisions.

Which do you believe would perform best?
Also I'm thinking the intel build would use less power therefore saving on ESB? I don't want my bill to be sky high!

The 3570k is a much better processor overall.

The power consumption wouldn't be much different.

I think I'll be ordering the majority of, if not all of the parts for the Intel system tomorrow. I am however gonna throw in an ssd, it's just too good a thing to pass up performance wise!

I only ask cos a google search didn't help and the actual link doesn't work for me (wtf!)

Someone on YT told me he had problems with the 7870XT, apparently he only gets 60% use of that card on BF3, it doesn't sound good to me(unless that's a good thing), so I was thinking of maybe going with a 7950 http://lb.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=67830&agid=1942, will I need to up the PSU if I go with that card?

I figure I'm not going to get any new monitors so I'll be playing on 1080p which I'm more than happy doing, so when BF4 comes out this card should ideally run it pretty well at the least, so why not get it, right!?

I'm still a noob hence why I'm posting, if ye think any of those above decisions are bad, tell me and I'll correct it!

I'm ordering the parts on Tuesday, I'm too excited for words but I'm sightly worried, will the following parts be compatible with the rest of the build:

Ram prices are sky rocketing. 50-60 percent price increase in a few weeks :O

That psu is too much for your current build but at the same time won't allow much further upgrading such as adding a second card. I'd go for the next one up or one step down.

Enter graphics card as 7950 since the 7870 XT version uses similar power to it. I wouldn't pay attention to what 1 person says on youtube, the 7870 xt is best value card available by far. That sapphire 7950 is a bad choice unless you want to use 5 monitors? That's what the Flex in the name means

The guy not getting 100% gpu utilisation most likely is being bottlenecked by his cpu. I'm guessing he upgraded an old dual core system with the card.

A 450w psu is overkill for it. No need for 600w. Go for a gold or silver rated 400-450w.

You could go with 1 x 140mm fan instead with that other case.

So I truly believed Id have bought this and be playing ARMA/BF3 by now, but I FINALLY know for bloody certain, Tuesday is the day I can finally order my pc.

I've been doing a ton of research recently out of total boredom, everyone seems to say that the 3570k is THE only way to go but this video plus a lot of individual reviews have me wondering if I should go AMD, here's the video that has me on the AMD/Intel fence http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=eu8Sekdb-IE

I will be gaming primarily but seamless video editing is something I require also.
So going by your original AMD build bloodbath, I was thinking perhaps putting in an fx8350 and a 7950 as in a few months I will be switching to a 1440p monitor. (the catleap thread has certainly made me question my TV atm..)

So really all I changed from the original AMD build(sorry I cannot do one of those purdy lists because I'm on my mobile) is the following:

It comes with 3 fans and that's all that can be installed in the case

You could go amd if you wanted. The 8350 is a good cpu. Per core performance is worse than the 3570k though by quite a bit. Only programs that take advantage of more than 4 threads will push it ahead. So video editing will do better but games, especially cpu heavy games like rts games will fall behind.

Maybe games will start using more than 4 threads soon. Next gen consoles afaik are using 8 so that might change things. The 8350 may end up a better gaming cpu. Who knows.

For the mainboard I'd go with this. The 8350 is a power hungry cpu. Especially with overclocking. This board has better power delivery with it 8+2 phase power compared to the 4+1 of the extreme.

The case isn't the best but go with what you like. I know it's not everyones taste but these are a total bargain.

I switched the mobo to a Gigabyte model, I also switched to that Antiphon case in black. It looks really good and apparently has 1.5 kilos of sound dampening material! The less sound this thing makes the better, think I'll add in a 120GB SSD again coz for 85 it's well worth it.

The build is now coming to around 995, pretty pleased with that!
