Hi I,m going to do a little bike and hike trip to Beara over the Easter weekend, basically I'll take the tent and all I need with my and want to camp somewhere out in the wild.

I see that there is a cycling route which I plan to follow mostly, but this just goes round on the coast and I'd like to spend some time in the mountains as well.

There is also a hiking trail and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the bike there. Is it small country roads, decent field trails or do you have to walk throug the field where cycling is not funny anymore?

Any Tips and Infos are welcome

You will be in the mountains at times while out on the coast , the cycling and scenery are amazing. Some tough hills so be be ready,..

Any place you find to camp will be wild especially allihies and eyeries. The coast road from eyeries to ardgroom is fairly remote in parts too , not much of a camper but suggest having your tent held down well winds can be strong.

If you have time it's worth cycling Healy pass but not sure if your carrying a load of camping gear will it be that easy

The Healy Pass is definitly on my List, after pushing my bike + luggage up the Romainian Mountains for 2 days last year, I don't have a prblem with geting of the bike and pushing for a while when I can't cycle anymore:D
I think the climb whill rather be loong but not extremly steep judging from what I saw

I done the Bera way trail from Castletownbere west and back to town again on a hardtail a few years ago.It was one of the best days I had on the bike.Unreal views some nice trails, open mountain, bogs, steep stuff up and down, country roads and every thing in between plus walking and lifting the bike over your shoulder.

If thats the trail you are on about I wouldnt be doing it with camping gear.Could you leave the gear somewhere safe and do a loop.If you only stayed on the roads and boreens you would have more than enough to keep you entertained.

There is a lane going over the hill from Allihies towards Eyeries which would be ok with camping gear.

What ever you decide enjoy and best of luck.

So, tomorrow I'm on the road, hope I won't freeze my ass off in the tent

    How did the trip/ride go?

I loved it, it was extremely exhausting, harder than I expected, as I'm not really fit at the moment. I did 300km and 5000m elevation wihin 5 days.
Weather was more or less ok, always cold but not very much rain. Camping was not the ideal choice, so every second night I checked into a B&B.
Stunning Landscapes, beautiful views, will definetly go back

Would be interested to hear how your cycle went? Did you find a decent campsite?

Hi it was a very nice trip, extremely beautiful landscape and if you want to camp somewhere in the wild i'd say there's no problem finding nice spots. I did in the end either stay at campsites or took a B and B when it was very cold and rainy.

I spent one day cycling to Beara from Cork, one day on the way back and cycled around the peninsula within 3 days, all in all 300 km

    Some pictures from my trip
