So, it's not that far away so time to start a thread.

    A few questions.

Will Oscar Whisky make the line up, would you back him.

Is Twiston Davies mad wanting to run The New One in the Aintree hurdle instead of keeping him to novices.

What about Zarkandar, Nicholls says he will be better over the longer trip. Personally don't like the horse at all.

How would you price up Cue Card vs Flemenstar? Surely Finians is done at the game?

Riverside Theatre and Hunt Ball the star names in the 3m race. That and the 3m hurdle look brutal races

What was the excuse for Oscar Whiskey after the race?

Cue Card v Flemenstar could be some race, they could cut each others throats though. I'd fancy Flemenstar. Interesting to see what way its priced though.

A few things id be thinking

    • Overturn might be suted by flat track nice ground
    • Cue Card has the form in the book and hell be short fav even against Flemenstar
    • 2m hurdle is sure to spring a surprise, its just a case of finding it. Even tough im not a fan of the horse Granduet might win it if here runs not having had a hard race at the festival.
    • Celestial Halo might turn the tables on Solwit around here if they run..

Why do people keep mentioning Grandouet and some '2m' hurdle? Have they added one this year

    Solwhit doesn't travel

Solwhit taking on Quevega in Punch.

Is there talk of Grandouet going to Punch?

I didnt check anything really to be honest.. There are sure to be surprises here tough..

Starting an Aintree tread is infinatly better than talking about the Lincoln:mad:, which always depresses me after cheltehnham..

Oscar Whiskey will probably run but at the likely price i'd doubt i'll be a backer, he didn't win by all that far last year. Zarkandar will probably stay but he may be devoid of a bit of class. The New One would have a serious chance in that. He has plenty of experience, so no problem with him running. NTD has to gauge his ability against the top 2 milers to decide on plans for next year.

Depending on ground, Cue Card vs Flemenstar would be 4/7, 7/4 respectively in a match bet at this stage. You have to factor CC's Cheltenham exertions, against Flemenstar having a problem after the Hennessy. I'd probably be siding with Flemenstar. Finians was poor but I believe ground is a huge factor to him. Wouldn't right off a decent comeback, but wouldn't be going near him until we see some spark left.

will be backing Thousans Stars again in the Aintree Hurdle, think bypassing the festival this year, will put him in better stead than previous years.
also won't mind if there was to be some cut in the ground.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,818 ✭✭✭ste2010

Grandouet is heading for punchestown bypassing aintree I believe.

IMO Oscars well should run in the Aintree hurdle. Perfect trip no Cheltenham exertions this year will like the ground and looks to be a week renewal this year.
STD (lovely acronym) should keep the new one in novices, no rush!
First Lieutenant should run again in the 3m, may well meet silviniaco conti but think he will perform on a flat track like aintree on good. Might not be good enough to win but I think he's option less elsewhere.
    3miler will be boring..

The plan for Flemenstar it seems to use Aintree as warm up for a crack at Sprinter Sacre at Punchestown

100k sterling for winning the Aintree race and 70k euros for the Punchestown race plus having to deal with Sprinter Sacre.

I know which race id have the horse more wound up for, I wouldn't use the Liverpool race as a stepping stone anyway

Wheres Al Eile when you need him?

Fascinating to see if Flemenstar lines up, I think Aintree will suit him. Youd need your head checked to back Whisky at anything under 5s after the last run. Hope The New One goes for the novice race as Id be a likely backer.

Think Flemenstar will hammer Cue Card in this any ideas of how they will price it up anyone? Finnians Rainbow on good ground would have a chance.

I certainly don't get the impression that they are using Aintree as a warm up. In addition to the extra money for the Liverpool event, Casey and co have stated that Flemenstar is not a good traveller and you can expect that issue will be greatly increased when taking into account he'll be going on a boat for the first time to race. No way they're going to put their prized asset through all that just for a spin. If he travels, they are 100% looking to win it.

From what I hear he's not as good as Darlan, although that means nothing considering how much they liked him. RIP.

You think they will run him at 2m4f? I thought they would keep him to 2m and run on the Friday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Yeah he won't run over 2m 4f. It will be in the first race on the Friday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,818 ✭✭✭ste2010

Another trend you see again and again are those expected to be big players at Cheltenham flop and then pull it out of the bag at aintree. In fact I wonder if some horses in the handicaps are still in plot mode.
What horses do you think will put it in at aintree that didn't perform last week?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,772 ✭✭✭byronbay2

I have always found Aintree to be a laying rather than betting meeting. Lots of horses (especially 2nd/3rd placers looking for a consolation prize) come to Aintree after a hard race at Cheltenham and under-perform at shortish prices. I would definitely favour fresh horses at The National meeting - Al Eile being a perfect example.

No you'll just have to sit thru Tanya with her big 'Ronnie' mumbling into the camera instead!

At least we'll still have Rishi and Claire Balding  :(

He left Ch4 when Highflyer lost the production of it! Prob left before he was pushed.

Tbh I don't watch Ch4 much anyway, prefer to stick to RUK or ATR and tbh I just switch off in between races most of the time.

Or Richie, as Davy Russell called him while being interviewed on the course after Lord Windermere won The RSA Chase last Wednesday - I was in stitches!!

Shame as I always thought Francombe was one of the best they had on the C4 team.

Him & Jim McGrath made a good double act IMO. McGrath can match most in terms of analysis & Francome was a good back up, as a great (ex) jockey

Isn't a surprise the bookies don't assist with marketing the sh*t out of aintree. Open antepost markets to create a big build up. I suppose aintree have a hand to play in it aswell.
One I will be backing even if it comes up against the new one is up and go. I fancied him for the Neptune independently and for McCain to protect him the way he did not sending him to Cheltenham speaks volumes

Maguire was interviewed after his winner today and when asked about Aintree, he immediately mentioned looking forward to riding Up and Go there. It's clear they really like him and purposely saved him for Liverpool. Like you, I'll be backing him.

Will Always Waining finally have a crack at the national? I backed him in the Topham the 2nd year he won it just because he won the year before and backed him last year cause he made me money the year before! Legend of a horse. He's had his usual shit runs this year.

Will Frankie Figg be running in the Foxhunters? One he gets the smell of Liverpool gee round that place he comes alive :pac:

I'd say they will wait to see the ground.
If its good going they would be mad not letting him have a crack at it.

I've backed him already with bet365 when they went non runner no bet.

Great shout. Had a right bet on him LTO and the distant second Aim to Prosper (gambled both days) went on the win next time out in a handicap. You can write off cheltenham for that one but that coupled with them skipping the festival themselves is a Great line to work with.

I was impressed with Up And Go last time out but he was going to be a well beaten 4th a few starts before that behind Taquin De Seuil at Sandown before falling.

Looking forward to Oscar Whisky in the Aintree Hurdle, back on a track and over a distance where he excels. Hopefully the fact that he was pulled up in the World Hurdle might see him go off at a slightly bigger price than he should be.

Couldn't be backing OW myself. Thousand Stars has only a neck to find and Muillns has stated from very beginning of the season that Aintree was the main target. He's only been pace-making at 2miles for Hurricane Fly this season and back up to his optimum trip he'll be primed for the race. I hope he's a price! I'd far rather back the grey than Oscar Whisky who's been messed around yet again this season.

I'll be firmly in the Flemenstar camp too, if he takes on Cue Card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Depending on the ground but If The New One steps out of novice company I'll back him for the Aintree Hurdle. He has a very impressive turn of foot.

I think the heavy ground and a poor enough ride saw him beat by At Fishers Cross but looking back on Cheltenham now though there was no shame in that. Neptune and Albert Bartlett winners and two very impressive winners at that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭jimjamcos

Yea, The New One would interest me too. He would definitely of beaten AFC if Twiston-Davies had kept his nerve and he admitted as much himself after that race. Will Zarkander turn up for Aintree Hurdle too? Hopefully he does and ensures better prices on some of the others. ROR will take on Hurricane Fly in Punchestown by the sounds of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Yeah Zarkandar will run I'd imagine. I backed him in the race last year.
