Much Point of rooting a phone with no custom roms?

    Just a quick one..

.. I've done away with the iPhone for a bit (not so much the hardware or anything.. but just simply found the phones were getting far too expensive!).

Got a Samsung Beam in a recent Bargain Alert - though it's currently still stuck on Gingerbread - but there's little or no custom roms (none that I can see from discussions on XDA Developer).

Is there any real point in rooting it? Presumably moving apps to SD card is enough of a reason to root.

Adblock and Titanium are the two apps I need root for.

yeah Titanium is amazing for backups

adaway apps (although now they are removed from play store you gotta sideload)

There are some other little tweaks that you can mess with too.

Is Cyanogenmod 7 not compatable with it?

EDIT nope no roms seem compatable! odd

It's also handy for the anti theft apps which are so much better with root permissions.

Found a link from 2011 that says it should be coming soon - http://www.galaxybeamforum.net/galaxybeam-roms/cyanogenmod-7-on-samsung-galaxy-beam-by-teamhacksung-(video)/ - so here's hoping it's not the same "coming soon" that Samsung have been saying with regards an ICS update.

Cheers lads. May as well root so.

Was working on doing a few homescreens sampled from mycolorscreen.com.. but the sheer amount of that seem to specifically need NovaLauncher! :(

That plus the Beam's wallpaper resolution is 800 x 480 and most homescreens seem to come with very large res wallpapers and even the likes of Photoshop and / or Wallpaper Wizardrii don't seem to cut it.

Root? Rolling and pushing your own hosts file. Having the ability to move about the folder structure freely. (I do this to access downloaded TED talks and generally tidy up lazy apps)

A good root File Manager, like ES, is also indispensable.

Android Police do a series on the best root apps and I think they've a list of 57, check that out and see if you need any of their services before deciding.

There's plenty of reasons to root your phone. ES file explorer being my particular favourite. Doesn't seem to be any roms/mods for it alright but there's nothing to stop you playing around with it yourself.

Interestingly enough the Beam has just appeared on this list of phones that are supposedly going to be upgraded to Jelly Bean 4.2.2. Seems like an odd choice to me, but it could happen.
