Android phone problem - HELP!!

I have a Vodafone Smart 2 Android phone since December. Yesterday I noticed that the Twitter and Facebook apps weren't working (force close message kept appearing). Eventually I switched off the device and when I went to switch it on again, the following happened:

Phone starts up and Android logo appears
Vodafone start up animation begins then freezes before phone switches on fully
This happens by itself over and over
The power button won't turn off the phone

It didn't get wet and I can't see any other reason for this malfunction. Am completely clueless as to how to fix, or at least try, to fix this problem.

Can anyone suggest anything I could try please?

Another thing is that my phone had been saying memory was low. Could this have caused the problem? I removed SD card but still not coming on

Not much you can do if you can't get the phone started up... have you tried connecting it to your computer?

Try pulling the battery and leave it out for a few minutes.

Have the battery out now. how long would I need to leave it out before checking I wonder?

I am a complete technobimbo when it comes to this so if I manage to connect it to the computer, what then?!
