Reduction of window ope heights

    Hey all,
Blockwork nearly wrapping up on self-build. The missus went looking for curtains today, and we realized the window ope heights are slightly too high for the largest standard size curtains (90"). The opes currently finish at roughly 225cm.
The pole is recommended to be about 5-6" above the window ope.
Is there any way to reduce the height of the top of the ope to allow us to bring the curtain rail down?
The only two possibilities I can think of are:
    1. Fitting secondary lintels below the current window lintels
    2. Creating a timber frame inside and out to reduce it to the required height.

Other than that it seems the US has plenty of 95" curtains which would do the trick, but would prefer to be able to shop local.

Get your curtains custom made- might not be too expensive

....buy some material and get a set of curtains made?

That's the last resort guys. Custom made curtains are expensive relatively speaking

My aunt was a dressmaker and she made mine (my curtains..not my dress!). It must be cheaper than installing additional lintels and buying standard curtains anyway - no?

225mm? A single course of blocks would completely close up those windows for you:D

I'd rather have larger windows than cheap curtains. The extra cost of lowering the window ope height will probably cover the additional cost of acquiring larger curtains

You say blockwork wrapping up so I presume you mean 88 1/2 inches from unfinished floor to bottom of lintel. Throw in some plaster and a timber floor and you'll bring that to 87ish. Top of curtain pole 5" to 6" above recess depending on diameter, stay away from eyelets or tab top, and your curtains should be fitting nicely.
