Mudguard Bracket ?

    Hi,

Does anyone know where I would get a mudguard bracket like the one shown (https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B4QJxcxANtL2TmhpLUxtV1lpaEk/edit?usp=sharing) , it attaches under the rear brakes to hold a mudguard on a Giant road bike. The dimensions marked are ~45mm and #9mm. The latter dimension is the problem it holds the mudguard too close to the tyre. I would like to replace it with one where the smaller dimension marked would be just 4 or 5mm so that the mudguard would be held further from the tyre. I tried two bike shops but they both said they don't sell individual parts that you would need to buy a full mudguard set. So are parts like the one shown standard ? Could I order one that would allow more clearance from somewhere ? I could try hacking the existing one myself but if these parts are non-standard and I made a mess of it I'd have to buy a full replacement mudguard so I'd like to know where I stand before I start.
So is there anywhere I can get something like this ?

    Thanks,

    Usjes

Can you let me know what you intend to do with the existing part if you find a replacement? A friend is looking for a clip and this might be just the job!

You should be able to elongate the slot above the 9mm part. That'll keep the mudguard further from the tyre. A round file or a carefully applied drill bit should sort it out.

Being impatient, I went ahead and took a scalpel to it to elongate the existing slot so I'll still be using it unless I find it still isn't good enough. From my brief search I get the impression that these parts are different for every mudguard so I'm not optimistic about anyone being able to suggest a supplier. One other possibility you might want to try is 3-D printing. This has come along a lot in recent years and you can now upload a design online and they will ship you the printed product (eg http://www.shapeways.com/). But you'd need to be technically literate enough to specify the part in a 3-D format and also the cost may still be prohibitively high.
