My VW Polo 1.4 2002 is making a rattling noise only when i'm going up a hill etc.. sort of like has no power then. what could be causing this? anyone know?

My VW Polo 1.4 2002 is making a rattling noise only when i'm going up a hill etc.. sort of like has no power then. what could be causing this? anyone know?

OP is your Polo the newer version that was first available from 2002? Or is the older version?

Have you done the obvious first, check the oil level?

My Polo is a 2002 version, oil level is fine. changed the oil to Castrol edge sport.
