andorra is basically the alicante of skiing
if you've skied before stay away from there
unless we're talking about an all-in package of about 250/300

Andorra is grand, perfectly fine place to go for an introduction to skiing. Don't get put off by the excessively long transfer times, and the price of beer is not quite as cheap as rumours would suggest due to the lack of any tax as they just bump the prices up to closer to regular price elsewhere in Europe. It's still cheap though and you can get good prices on packages.

    ???

The Pyrenees have had incredible snow fall this winter, there'll be lots of snow but could be quiet warm as not super high, Arcalis is meant to be the powder mountain. Nearby Masella is open to the very end of April.

mycro89; Personally I would not touch it with a barge pole, per km of available skiing Andorra has the most expensive lift pass in Europe and just because it is open does not mean it will be worth going to.

You will have very limited skiing the snow will be heavy and wet and even with good snow there is absolutely no guarantee that it will be there is a couple of weeks, just back from a resort that got 80cm in 48 hours this week, by the time we were leaving on Friday the snow was much and water & that resort is much higher than those in Andorra.

Sorry for the thread hijack but have a similar question.

I'm a complete NOOB and considering going on a skiing holiday next week. Is it too late? If not, where would be the best place(s) to go at this time of year?

I'm still looking at snow cameras and there still seems to be plenty snow on some places

Kaprun in austria has a Glacier and so is fine there would be a loads in the Alps too.

you need to find out which resorts are staying open.

Muckwarrior At this time of the year yes conditions can be fantastic in certain resorts if you get lucky or it can as easily go the other way. Villages tend to be a little on the quiet side except for seasonairres and their end of season piss ups and conditions can go soft quickly but its always worth a punt as you can get great value and pick up hardware and soft goods at the end of the season.

A general rule is aim high resorts from 1,500 meters up to 3,900 meters. A few suggestions below very general & in no particular order

Chamonix France – Grand Montes will be open until early May normally stay in Arginteiare to reduce travel in the morning.

Saas Fee, Switzerland- Open till the last week of April and I have skied amazing conditions there on the 24-26th of April one season.

Tignes France – I know current conditions are pretty good right now from info on the ground.

Hintertux Austria – Great resort for late skiing but can be quite quiet at this time of the year in the village.
