    Particularly if:

    1) You are setting up as Sole Trader and
    2) You do not stand to make much of a profit initially in the set-up?

Are you eligible for the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance?

I'm starting a Business for the last year, employing one person for now. Won't be making money for another good while until its up and running. Was told that I can't get anything because I'm not actually looking for a job!

So I've been living on savings and pittance.

There really is very little personal financial support for those starting a business which is nuts.

If you are already on benefits maybe it's different, I don't know.

if startin a business try the enterprise boards for support, as for welfare, you'll only get help if on long time UB

    No, not true

There are two schemes - the Back to WOrk Enterprise Allowance operates as long as you are on Job seekers Benefit - you get a grant of €720 and get paid your UB into your bank.

If on JA, you get get 100% of your benefit for the first year and 75% for the second.

I found that Welfare/Area Partnership worked very well together.
