I finally set up a saorview receiver on an old tv set . The aerial is an internal one and we could get the old analog channels without too much issue pre switchover.
All installed fine yesterday but this evening the connection started freezing and eventually i got a no signal message.
I rescanned for the channels and i now am getting an rtenl2 test service ,7 channels but not the saorview channels i had yesterday.
Is this likely to be an issue on my side with a weak signal or is it possibly a transmission problem.
I think i should be connection to a castlebar transmission

The problem is likely to be your indoor aerial, RTÉNL generally recommend an outdoor aerial for Saorview reception.

Then why do you get the second (test) mux and not the operational first mux? Maybe during the testing phase for the second mux they may be transmitting at higher power/more robust signal which won't be used when it's fully operational.

You could try the indoor aerial in different places around the room or on a window facing in the direction of the transmitter and do a retune again.

Thanks sorry for the delay in replying. I suspect there may have been some testing going on, i kept scanning for the signal and at one point the second mux seemed to drop off and the first came back again.

Hi if you were getting rte1 and 2 on the old analogue but tv3 and tg4 not so well
you will probably need an outdoor aerial check your coverage here
