Scumbag slashed tyre-Tyre or tube replacement

Left my bike locked in a public bike compound for 6 hours today and came back to find some scumback had made a slash (about an inch in width) in the side of my tire which penetrated the tube:mad: Just wondering would I have to now replace the whole tyre or just either get the tube repaied with a puncture repair kit or just replace the tube completely. The slash is not on the base of the tyre as I said but on the side so I am not sure if I would need a completely new one. What do you guys think

Whatever you go for, I hope you've taken it home. It's pretty common for scumbags to do damage to your bike in the hope you don't bring it home, giving them plenty of time to work on the lock when there's noone around.

You could repair the tube, if the hole is small enough to be covered by a patch, but the tyre will probably need to be replaced. When you pump up the tube, it will push its way out through the slash in the tyre - not good...

Thanks folks for the info. Yeh I took the bike home. Bloody scumbags. Hope Karma bites them on the ass. There were a couple of other bikes locked beside mine that were also slashed
