The Book of Kells app was released at the end of last year. I know it was on sale for 12 euro but is free today. I'm downloading it currently. About 700mb in size.

Launched in November 2012, the iPad app quickly became the number one app in the app store.

You can see all 680 pages of the Book of Kells available in high resolution for the first time. One of the most famous illustrated manuscripts and the most elaborate manuscript of its kind to survive from the early Middle Ages, today, it is on display in the Library of Trinity College Dublin.

    Features:

Following on from the international award-winning DVD-ROM, this app showcases the amazing decorative skills of the scribes and the rich and varied colours used in the drawings.
Explore the finest details of 21 of the 9th century manuscript’s most decorated pages at up to six times their original size.
Learn about the history of the book including where, when and how it was made
Understand the meaning behind decorative symbols used throughout the manuscript
Browse through over 600 examples of animals, initial letters and other decorative themes

Is there a version available for Android or other tablets?
At present there are no other versions of the app available. The current version of the app works on any iPad or iPad mini running iOS 5.1 or later.

There is indeed a Non-Apple version available free of charge to anyone whose interested. Trinity have only put up high def pictures of the indvidual pages- so they're not in app form- but perfect for any web browser.

Read the link, it was free for St. Patrick's day only.

It should now be set to expired. No idea how to do that...

I think that we can all agree on that, however some of the posters are stating that it stopped being free somewhere between 11pm and 12am last night i.e. still St Patricks Day.
