No monitor signal

Hi, I took apart my PC today, and now that I've put it back together, I'm not getting a signal on my monitor. The monitor works, I just tested in on my by duplicating my laptop's display on it.

I've taken out my GPU and it has made no difference (I connected the DVI cable to a DVI to HDMI and connected that to the motherboard - this should still work right?). No signal. In a sense I think this is a good sign, as it means my GPU isn't necessarily broken.

When I turn my computer on everything spins up (CPU, GPU and chassis fan). I also took out and put back in the battery on my mobo (which apparently clears the CMOS) and this didn't change anything. The only thing I can think of that mighn't be connected properly is the 4+4 pin CPU connector, but my fan is working fine on that so I don't know what the problem may be :/

    Any help?

BTW, I removed the cooler on my CPU, and confirmed the CPU is working by checking if it gets hot. It does get hot afer after 3/4 sec.

Also, my mobo isn't beeping if that changes anything. ** Scratch that, my speakers aren't connected, I'll fix that now. D'oh.

    Thanks.

No beeping even when I take out my RAM. I have my GPU in, though. Still, no beeping even if I disconnect my card from the PSU (it's stil seated in the PCIE slot, though.

Photos of the inside? Just to make sure that absolutely everything is in?

Did you reconnect both mainboard power connections?

Both? You mean the 24 pin one? (20+4).

There should be 2 separate mainboard power connections.

For socket 1155 its an 8 pin at the top of the board + the other 20+4 connection.

Yea, they are connected. The 8 pin powers the CPU, right? Yes that's connected as I said, the CPU gets hots after a few sec (I removed the heatsink to check this). The 20+4 pin is also connected.

I'm heading our now, hopefully I can sort this later :/

    Thanks.

Gah. I read that it's OK to do for a few sec. Damn. Oh well, what's done is done.

Have you a friend with a pc you can test the parts in one by one?

You probably didn't do any harm, but it's really not something you want to be doing just to check if the processor works. It's not designed to have heat build up that quickly on the die. Your best bet is to try and rule everything but the processor and motherboard out. Since your other components are getting power, if everything else is ruled out, it'll be the processor.

I'll try that. So I'll just have the CPU and RAM connected? Seriously, it would make nos sense that a component is damaged considering I only took off my graphics card yesterday.

Need I remove the graphics card completely or can I just disconnect it from the PSU (6+8pin connection)?

If it's not powered when it's supposed to be, the mobo should freak out. Better to pull it.

I'm goons go the whole hog and remove my mobo too and set it on my desk. Hopefully I can sort this out, I'd hate to have to RMA :/

The integrated GPU on the i5 should still give a signal over a HDMI cable right? I only have a DVI connection on my monitor and am using an adaptor to test that. No signal. Here's a pic of my 8 pin CPU power and 24 pin main board power.

    Have you tried VGA?

No, I can't find a VGA cable. It shouldn't make a diff though, my own laptop did it fine using the adaptor.

I dunno if this will be any use to you but maybe you haven't seen it http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I've tried everything. I can't get any video signal. I think my motherboard is gone. It doesn't make any sense to me as all I did was take my GPU out (and d/c some connections in the process). I reseated my CPU, to no avail. I don't have a motherboard on hand to test some of my components.

Should I be getting motherboard beeps through my speakers if my speakers are connected via a headphone jack on my case? Because I amn't getting any beeps.

I am going to disconnect everything and reconnect everything tomorrow or later and see if that helps. :/:/:/

You should connect your cases speaker cable to the correct port on the mobo to get the speaker output, some cases havn't an internal speaker so you should have received something like below with it you can attach
    12-201-032-TS?$S300W$

I should have received that with the case? I'll have a look, thanks.

Don't think I have one of them.

You should have got 1 with the mainboard.

I'm pretty sure I didn't (with either of the motherboards I have).

My motherboard moved while I was connecting a HDMI cable (after I had removed the screws fastening it to the case). It died (it was turned on at the time) and I'm pretty sure I smelled burning. My mobo no longer powers up. My older system does power up, so the PSU apparently still functioning.

I think the motherboard is fecked. I'm going to have to return it. I'll email HWVS now.
