Things from the Celtic tiger you don't see anymore

What things from the Celtic tiger things don't you see anymore? One of the odd things I saw a few times during those years was people throwing their small change away after getting something in a shop :pac: I kid you not, literally throwing it into the bin outside the shop.

Another was a mate telling me I was nuts for not re-mortgaging my house to buy a BMW. He did it, and doesn't have the BMW anymore, but still has the monthly repayment....nuts!!!

    Anyone else?

People not thinking it was usual to fly to NYC for a few days shopping. Most Americans dont ever leave their state but about about a third of irish people have gone to the US.

You couldn't turn on the radio without some shyster wanting your SSIA money.

Investing in Kevin Sharkey paintings or wine and or some flat in the arse end of Bulgaria

I doubt anyone made a profit on those paintings!

I hope you slapped them, celtic tiger or no celtic tiger.

I don't know that Irish people changed all that much. If anything it's just fashionable to say you've got no money now. There are people with money that just don't want to be seen spending it.

€500 notes. Every builder in the land used to have a wad of these on hand at all times during the boom. Now, they're literally things that exist only in fairy tales.

And all it took was the economy collapsing, banks going insolvent, 450,000 out of work, an IMF/EU/ECB bailout, a general election and thousands of euros of debt loaded onto both people alive right now and future generations.

    Bargain!

Will it take the apocalypse to get rid of Gaybo? :pac:

Noo, it's "things from the celtic tiger you don't see anymore". That's "Celtic Tiger", not "Little house on the Prairie".

I remember sitting in a taxi and the very nice female driver telling me about the lovely house she'd bought in the Cape Verde. That was my first inkling that things were way out of control.

I saw this before the celtic tiger, I was in an early house called the white horse after my debs in 1996 and saw these business types coming in for a pint and a chaser on the way to work.

The amount of new gigantic 4X4's to be seen has halved in my experience. Eddie Hobbs trying to flog property in some foreign place, before rebranding himself as a soothsayer, apparantly forseeing the crash bang years before it happened.
