Loyalty card app?

My wallet is getting a bit chunky with all the cards I have and I'm refusing loyalty cards in a lot of shops I frequent as I just have too much **** already. Has anyone had any luck using the apps which take a scan of the card and then you can scan your phone at the check-out instead of scanning your card? Have seen FindMe and Keyring app but not sure if they are geared mainly towards the US?

Any suggestions and experiences welcome :)

My understanding from other threads is that loyalty card apps are hit and miss due to some scanners not being able to recognize the bar code on the phone screen.

I use barclone. I think the issues are due to screen brightness and screen protectors. Seen somewhere to have your brightness at 100% and better if you have no screen protector

thought you were saying to have it brighter than 100% there :o

I've heard about the scanning difficulties too which would be a bit of a pain alright, has anyone witnessed this for themselves around any Irish stores and is it generally the same chains that have the same issues?

I've had an issue in subway. One day it scanned from my phone. Another day it wouldn't. This was before I heard of the brightness issue.

I was developing an application for mobile devices to use as a loyalty app as the op described.

It's very hit and miss because the ordinary scanners you see in retail generally don't work. The scanners I used were dual purpose in that they did a laser scan for normal use but also had a photo CCD built in for barcodes on mobiles. They work then by taking an image of the screen and analysing that image.

Interesting, so only a certain type of scanner works with mobile then? I guess the reflection from the screen is sending the lazer arse ways?
