I am just wondering if cheap seeds from the likes of aldi or lidl are just as good as the more expensive ones from garden centres.

Yes they are just as good in my opinion. The variety is narrower but the price is nice. They even sell some F1 Hybrids.

They're just as good in my experience - less of a range, but fine. Aldi had/ have had one or two that were less common (Amsterdam Forcing carrot for example) this year.

A lot of the expensive seeds are F1's, which I won't go off on a rant about, but they are more breed for commercial growers and/or to make seed companies money. Open pollinated varieties, which tend to be cheaper, are fine for the home gardener.
