Audi Sat Nav question

Could someone tell how would I determine if a audi a4 2008 (new model )had sat nav installed or not without knowing anything about car? Would there be an antenna on top of roof?

All i can tell you is that the buttons for all functions e.g nav, phone, radio and media are located next to gear stick and the LCD screen on dashboard is a coloured one and not a red monochrome one. Is it possible this car has sat nav? A friend was looking at one today and when I asked about sat nav he forgot to check so we didn't know if it was available or not.

    Thanks.

If it had the MMI interface near the gear lever it has Nav. It will also have and akward looking bland radio without a central controller in the middle of the dash - looks like a plain black piece of plastic as opposed to a radio.

Having the nav button doesn't guarantee Sat Nav.

A large flat screen for the radio and having a stubby aerial to receive signals should give a reasonable indication. The vast majority of A4's won't have it installed as it was a costly extra unless they were doing a promotion at the time.

Even if its a uk model?

The most noticable indicator on an A4 is the MMI as unlike the A6 it didn't have this if Nav wasn't present I believe.

I was reading something online that Audi have the antennas built into car i.e the ones that even use sat nav. Is that true?

The first indication is the GPS antenna on the roof:
    media?xwm=y&id=fba9d4db-81b5-4c2f-be55-de1b9872a894&width=400&height=300

The Sat-Nav screen in the dash is wider than the standard non Sat-Nav one:
    media?xwm=y&id=03ad847d-7aad-4e7b-b752-a697de4445f0&width=400&height=300

There is also a MMI type scroll dial similar to BMW's iDrive system in front of the gear stick:
    media?xwm=y&id=4d928096-199c-409f-b441-cd709731456b&width=400&height=300

As far as i know there was a scroll dial with those buttons but no antenna on top of car. So that should explain it i guess.

Why is there a nav button if there is no sat nav and can it still be installed afterwards?

On an A4 I'm almost 100% that scroll dial isn't there unless Nav is in it. Could be the case that the antenna is in the rear window instead maybe? Are you 100% sure there wasn't an antenna or the buttons weren't?

If it's a car for sale just link the thing already.

It was a private sale, i dont have a link. Im 100% sure there was no aerial on roof, i saw car myself from the outside but wasnt inside it. I was told by friend who test drove it that there was a scroll near gear stick with those buttons with nav media and radio. He showed me a picture of what he saw in it on another car online. The car had no bluetooth originally but had its own handsfree equipment installed he told me too , not sure if that makes any difference?

Interior pics of an A4 with Nav

Unfortunately, some of the exterior pics seem to have got corrupted on imageshack and I no longer have the originals. Best exterior shot is:

But I can't make out if that's an aerial or the windscreen wiper on the car behind

Just had a look downstairs and the shark fin isn't on the A4 down there, that doesn't have Nav (but doesn't have B/T either). From the new brochure, all the pics have the shark fin in them, so it looks like that is required for B/T.

I think Bluetooth was standard and integrated into the MMI when Sat Nav was ordered. You really need to view the car to confirm.

Do you know was it possible to have one with sat nav and without bluetooth?

I think the stub aerial is neither here no there. On my A5 at least, I have the the little shark fin from the factory and I dont have factory nav.
IMO, on the A4 / A5 (not A6), if it has the MMI controller & bottons around the gear lever and its the first of the new models (around 08), it has nav.
