No new apps or changes in settings, suddenly needs to be charged more and runs out of battery quickly with seemingly negligible usage. Phone is 18 months old. Should I be annoyed or is that the shelf life these days?

Batteries do have a shelf life, buy another and use that as a spare. Also, Android slows over time, it's best do a factory reset every so often

    Definitely OP.

Mine too is approaching 18months old, and I barely get to lunch time from say 8am with mine.

In saying that I use it a lot for work (calls) and also for web browsing. It has most definitely gotten worse of late though.
