PAYE Anytime - Delay in Payment

Hi there! Hope you can help me.

On the 8th I applied for tax back on medical expenses via PAYE Anytime. Today I logged into my account to see that nothing has been done and when I click on year 2012 it asks me to contact my local office.

Off I go and call them however the operator wasn't exactly sure what happened. He reckons my claim might have been randomly selected to verify that all is in order but couldn't confirm 100%.

Would anyone be able to tell me what's going on here? Should I start lining up all my receipts for the last six years as I'm due an audit or is this a formality where they just look over everything to make sure I input all my p60 details correctly?

My claim is small, primarily for consultant fees and prescription meds.

    Thanks for reading..!

Online claims through paye anytime are processed automatically without any staff intervention. If they pass through the inbuilt security checks then a P21 balancing statement should issue with 48 hours of input. Any refund due should issue within 3 working days if you input your bank details. A portion of all reviews are selected for double checking which will increase the length of time for any refund to issue. The claims which are selected for verification checks can add days or weeks to the process depending on staff resources and time of year.

If the staff member assigned to manually checking your claim feels proof is required, they will contact you.

Thanks for that Relax Carry On. Took a bit of digging but looks like I'm not the only one getting this message this year.

I'll keep all my papers to hand just in case. :)

No bother. As this keeps coming up, I think I'll drop the Revenue webmaster a note to see if a generic message re verification checks can be added in somewhere if its not in place already.

Revenue can hold onto a refund for 3 months from the date you make the claim before they have to start paying you interest on it

Did any of you read my earlier post? A portion of all claims both online and paper based get held for a second level of checking. Some are randomly held and some are targeted.
Depending on the time of year coupled with reducing staff numbers, those second level checks can take up to the three month limit.
The online system is still the fastest way to process claims. Any system where money is involved needs to have checks and balances to ensure its operating correctly.

Similar style question but slightly further down the line, got notification of my refund 3 days ago (ie I was issued a P21 statement), all is in order, bank details submitted with online payments ages ago, is it 3 days till the refund appears in my account or is it a random amount of time depending on the queue. I presume that it is the former based on previous posts, just as a matter of interest / curiosity.

It's an automated system so its 3 working days from notification.

It should take about five days for the refund to hit your account going by previous years, that said they seem to be a lot slower this year with everything.

I submitted mine, it finally came back yesterday and said that I was overcharged 131.52, this is based on prescription expenses, I included. In the "Treatment of result box" it says "Offset against PAYE 131.52 2008", yet when I go into my 2008 statement, it's dated 2009 and perfectly balanced. Any ideas as this is going to annoy me over the weekend?

The only people who can tell you for definite are Revenue. Underpayments under €400 used to just stay on your account to be offset against future refunds. I would hazard a guess that this is the case. However having a p21 state 2008 was balanced is a bit baffling.

What's more baffling is I got a refund last year of a few hundred which surely should have been offset at that stage!

    I'll rung them on Tuesday.

Hope mods don't mind my bumping this thread.

Five weeks and counting. I see that some of you were still waiting when this thread was first created. Anyone have any luck? Must be some backlog!

It can take awhile before you get notified. Mine was three days from notification but 8 weeks from I applied.

submitted paper med1 forms for 2011 and 2012 together back in feb. got the 2011 balancing statement and refund a couple of weeks later. still no sign of the 2012 balancing statement or refund yet even though when i log into the paye online system it says the expense has been claimed for 2012. popped them an email this week but it says that it can take up to 30 working days for a reply.
