Hello all, am trying to follow this:

    http://androidforums.com/desire-tips-tricks/174345-how-move-apps-sd-card-unrooted-device-noobs-guide-updated-09-02-11-a.html

I didnt understand step three, so I saved the whole file to my desktop, I am now on step 15, but it is not working out for me at all, I assume because the command prompts are wrong? Please, please help.. my head is melted with this

And finally is there any easier way of stopping the ridiculous lack of storage problem on this phone? Apart from the above? It is wrecking my head  Its like a poison chalice of a phone! such unusable potential.

All help gratefully received, Thanks for reading :D

    Sorry I didn't see this sooner -

That method above does not really work, I used to have a WFS - the only way to get around the lack of storage space is to get the phone S-off - in order to do this you would have to bring the phone to a Chinese phone shop, you ask them to use a thing called XTC clip and ask them to S-Off - once that is done its easy to root and flash and do whatever you want - might cost you 15 or 20 quid...

Once that is done you can put whatever Rom you want on the phone and use a method called app2sd - you partition your SD card to have a 1gb ext 3 or 4 partition, make sure your card is at least class 6 to make it lag free....

Plenty of threads in the WFS section of XDA....

It's as easy as copying a file to your PC, renaming it and copying to an SD card if you do the above thing I posted...- it removes the bootloader security properly - the method you posted is possible, and will let you install custom ROMs - but you will not be able to install app2sd for your extra app space and have proper access to your phone doing it that way... (From my experience anyway)

So - a good fast SD card, and pay 20 quid in a phone shop for s-off and then he fun really begins.. :)

Thank you again fieldog, I guess I'm a glutton for punishment, I found the official htc bootloader, which can be found here if anyone else needs it:

    http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/

now it was going well, here are the instructions:

    Step 1

Remove and reinsert the battery then proceed to step 2. For devices without a removable battery, long press the power key then select restart. Hold down the volume down key while restarting to start the device in Bootloader mode.

    Step 2

Press Volume Down and Power to start the device into Bootloader mode.

    Step 3

Use the Volume buttons to select up or down. Highlight Fastboot and press the Power button.

    Step 4

Connect the device to the computer via a usb cable

    Step 5

On your computer create a new folder (For Example: C:\Android) where we will be putting the following 3 files in this new folder:

    adb.exe
    AdbWinApi.dll
    fastboot.exe

Note: for Mac OS X and Linux you will only need adb and fastboot.

    To find these files:

    a.
Run the “SDK Manager.exe” which is found in \android-sdk-windows\

    b.
Wait about 3 minutes. You will see there are many packages you can update. Please install Android SDK Platform Tools and Android SDK Tools (Please update it if your SDK version is r11).

    c.
After you have installed this, you will be able to find the files in the following locations.

    1.
    To find adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, look in \android-sdk-windows\platform-tools

    2.
To find fastboot.exe look in \android-sdk-windows\tools

Note: fastboot.exe may be unavailable in the latest Windows Android Tools release. You can extract it from a previous release available here: android-sdk_r13-windows.zip
    3.
Mac OS X or Linux users can download the fastboot binary using the following links:

    Platform Download Size (bytes) Checksum
    Fastboot binary, OS X
(Unzip the file before executing) fastboot-mac 59071 ed784e50cfcaba3c60380c5f448aa354
    Fastboot binary, Linux
(Unzip the file before executing) fastboot 61887 9851bb6ad29cd4b60c9ba9d011ba9efd
    Step 6

Open up command prompt. ( Start > Run > Type CMD,). The window that appears is called Command Prompt.

    Step 7

Navigate to where you unzipped the ZIP file and go to the folder you just created (For Example: If you created the folder in C:\Android, then you would type in Command Prompt: cd c:\Android).

    Step 8

Type in Command Prompt: fastboot oem get_identifier_token.

    Step 9

You will see a long block of text. Copy and paste this text into the the token field below (in the command prompt: Right Click > Mark > highlight the block of text > Right click to copy).

I get to step 8, and d'oh... I have attached a screen print of the progress.

All and any help gratefully received :)

Have you created a goldcard? Or do you even have to do that step anymore? I had to at one point, can't remember for the life of me why though!

I did mine the S-off way and not this later way of doing it....

HTC eventually had allowed the boot loader to be unlocked their way a good bit through the phones life, I had mine done ages at that stage but it still left your control fairly limited even at that, which I think is why I opted for Chinese shop, this method was not available for me as I was an early buyer of the phone...

It's actually one of the toughest phones I ever had to hack to involve me having to bring it to a third party to get the mystical "S-off" as I did not have the device (xtc clip) and I used to fix phones for a living, 95% of other phones have been a piece of piss to do generally whatever you want to them, other HTC phone there is always a software exploit - this phone they still haven't done it over software as far as I'm aware...

Thanks again, you're a star :) no, no goldcard.

I am going to take your advice (finally, :o right?) I don't have much money, hence my stubborness on paying, plus I like a challenge :p

So, one final question fieldog, do you have any advice for me for after the s-off?
And once again, thanks for saving my hair lol.. I was tearing it out with frustration at the results being far less than expected :D

Basically once you are s-off, you download your root file, rename it to PG746IMG.zip (may not be exactly right, check xda!)

Then copy over your root file to your sd, power on with volume down, it will ask you do you want to install it, say yes with the up key, then do the same again with clockworkmod and it will install your recovery...

From there you can do what you need, wipe ROMs and flash new ones etc...

For extended space, make sure to partition your sd card, mine was an 8GB so I used a 1GB ext 4 partition, 512 linux swap and the rest as fat32 for apps/music etc and install a Rom that has data2sd enabled (gingerbread roms usually)or init2ext4+ (ICS/Jellybean)

See Xda Wildfire S Android Development for all you need...
