Are the larger Achieva / Yamaski monitors used mainly for gaming (27-30" monitors)
if I am not a serious gamer and just use the PC for office and browsing would an LG 24" serve the purpose just as well.
It would be an upgrade from the 19" I have now anyway.

Wondering as well would display text be a lot small on the larger ones (I'm sure however they could be increased)

It's mainly the features and look of a large screen that attracts me to them as I am planning a new build, (even 24" would be large to what I have now)

The larger screen would be useful to possible show more as I often have a lot tabs open in Chrome or firefox running in addition to 2 or 3 more other applications as well.

24" LG IPS or Achieva / Yamaski for the ordinary PC user.

Or is it a personal preference or a need if video editing etc

Tbh they work better if you need a lot of screen space for multiple tabs/programs.

You can change the windows text size to adjust to higher resolutions.

You need a beast of a machine to run games at 2560x1600 if you want 60+ fps. I wouldn't bother gaming on them unless you are running dual gpu or a titan. Older games will be fine but the likes of crysis 3 makes my 7970 cry at 1080p.

    Thanks,

I don't think I'd be bothering with gaming. Have an xbox that's currently on the TV and with work and a part time college course its off a lot these days. Currently don't do any gaming did a little at one time but something that needed extreme settings etc...

I do like the idea and wonder if it is worth it. Have been doing a lot of reading and the various models pro and cons mat, gloss, stands (crossfire) seem nice

Think that if I did go for one that I might be better off with a multi led as I'm not concerned about input lag, could do without o/c the monitor whatever about the PC. The hdmi might useful might plug in the xbox into it...
Probably worth paying extra for pixel perfect or as I seen on one zero not the usual less than 5...some of the Yamaskai seem reasonable but there is no pixel test or they are labelled as lite, maybe the basic model.

I see they say you can't plug in a laptop but is that because the monitor needs dvi-d there is that familiar blue connector but maybe it wouldn't work.

I'd probably still need a good graphics card but not a high end one.
People on forums have said that you get use to a large screen been so close and I'd hope so...

There's a lot of these Korean monitors about at the moment. It pays to do some research into it. I'm looking into 1 myself at the moment.

The brands I know about at the moment are Yamakasi, Crossover and shimian.

Most offer 27" and 30" models. Most are basic models with no screen menus and only dual dvi connection. You can get the same model of some with additional input connections. Mini display port to dual link dvi adapters work with some of them.

Checking out this one at the moment. It has a anti glare finish. I don't like the tempered glass models. Too much reflection and they can get dust trapped between the glass and screen.

    Also this 27" model.

If you're after something with a lot of inputs I saw this 30" pixel perfect. I saw it overclocked to 80hz in a review.

I think I'm going to go for a 27" myself.

That link to the 27" seems good alright with a nice price. Don't think I've seen one that cheap across any of the models or variants. Seems as well that he has a bit of a sale on with 7% off it and to suggest that its max 3 pixels which I think isn't too high.

Is there any table anywhere that lists all the types and variants I wonder.

That monitor has just the one dvi-d that's probably all I need. I would have thought the blue one was to connect a laptop etc but its not supported or is it to act as an old vga port. Could live without hdmi off a monitor and get it on the PC.

The price is good but the catleaps were going for as little as €230 last year. The 120hz variants as little as €280. No chance of that now :(

I know the p in the crossover variants is for the pivot stand which costs more for a better quality stand.

Found this link that explains and summaries the different variances, some pros and cons of the different Korean monitors. I'm sure many here have seen it already...

For a 27" Qnix QX2700 LED this one from bigclothcraft doesn't seem awfully expensive despite having 2 hdmi and d-sub etc connectors.

As well as it supposed to be zero pixel or less than 1 although hes selling an identical one for the same price that has up to 10 pixels..before they would fail it.
One would hope that he wouldn't get mixed up and send you that version even though you were buying the >1 etc
    Maybe it's just a typo.

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Perfect-Pixel-27-Qnix-QX2700-LED-HDMI-1-4a-2560x1440-S-IPS-Monitor-/130798458798?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item1e743217ae#ht_18040wt_825

I'm not sure why I am looking at the multi ones I guess I am trying to cover all the angles if down the road I would plug in the xbox or other items.

Maybe its fairly ok where its plugged into now an LG (2011) 42" LED TV should be clear enough. Would it be any better on the PC or the 27" etc.

Unless there was any other good reason for it I wonder would I be better off to just go with the monitors that have DVI-D only. - could never plug anything in then, but if this price is correct its only about 50 more so maybe worth it. I've seen others at 100 more for multi versions.

I wouldn't sully a good monitor like those with an xbox but that's just me :)

You won't want to play it ever again once you get your pc anyway except for maybe the odd exclusive title.

Get yourself a pc xbox wireless adapter and you can use your xbox pads with pc.

It's up to you if you think you need it though.

Only issue I've had with it is that it doesn't do blacks fantastically well, but it's incredibly vibrant.

Thanks something worth considering alright, fairly local in the UK, would have a place to return if need be for a few years and less to worry about in bad pixels etc...

Isn't that normal for a ips panel?

I guess, but subjectively my 7 year old NEC 20WGX2 trounces the DGM for contrast/blacks - even though it has a worse contrast ratio and black depth on paper.

I think part of that is down to the opticlear on the NEC, which was fantastic.
