Weather tomorrow will be cold, but should be dry for this. Good luck to all taking part.

Its always cracking race and the past winners are a who's who of Domestic and International Irish riders.

Circuit is not too challenging but is fast. Very good surfaces, a bit of road furniture going though Kilsheelan but otherwise as safe as you will find.

Finish is uphill and is tougher than you think - don't go too early.

Well that was a good race on some very good road,A4 race went off with 125 riders and when that was announced at line up you could see by the look on lads faces that they where thinking "oh oh this could be carnage". Race went of steady enough at start few jumps by some including myself just to put the feelers out but you could sense the bunch where not gona let any break away last.Heading into Clonmel there was a strong head wind that hindered any type of jump and to say that lads taking their own lives when flying up on wrong side while cars coming head on is an understatement, something seriously needs to be done cause they will cause a serious crash while trying to cut back in or worse end up thru a windscreen,I'd sooner get around last and safe than do what they do.

Anyway after hitting Clonmel we turned and headed to Carrick, the speed was cranked up a good bit with the tail wind and the pelaton at times was strung out in huge line, few of lads from Aqua,Barry Meehan and myself tried to break away at times but lads just hung on the back getting sucked along but would do no work on up and overs, you coulds sense from from the lads at front that they were not gona drag the pelaton work so it was very stop start at times.

When we hit Carrick the pelaton was lined out with two Carrick lads,Aqua lads,Barry and myself,we went up the climb towards finish next time around at good tempo, looking around you could see the lads that if they got around safely they would be to the fore again toward finish.

As we passed the start line the bell rung loud you knew the pace would pick up and attacks would start and so they did,I was not going to go try solo as the bunch just hunts you down and 99 out off 100 times they devour you.Going up the climb before we got on road to Clonmel I went to the front to try and line it out again and it did, then bang Barry Meehan went on the attack, prop was the best thing to happen because the pace picked and it was super flying along.Barry set a lovely tempo on up and overs few of us would do it most again where happy to sit in and so then the pelaton would swarm us,it is crazy what happens, lads to be so eager then to be at front when we could be doing 40-45kph that when they hit front they don't realize the work you need to do to keep it up even for ten seconds it is tough, they just slow it right down then and this leads to alot of stop starts along the way, this again will lead to lads piling up and some one doing serious damage to themselves. At one stage a group of us tried again to get away, same lads again trying to get away but no workers, myself and Barry said to one another its gona be gallop finish no one is getting away.

Again coming into Carrick the pace was good and people where jostling for the perfect position, speeds where high which is very good and exciting, heading towards the the bridge before we turn right I looked around and true to what I though earlier the same strong lads when hoovering around the front,I could sense Barry was gona sit until couple 100 mtrs as he was in serious form after last weeks win,so what better wheel to jump on.We went up a nice pace into strong headwind and gradually lads where dropping, within ten seconds there was 4 of us heading towards last bend,Barry kicked a little,I noticed but did'nt react in time,a lad from Paudi O Shea's outfit slotted in on his wheel, this was a harsh lesson but learnt well, leave a bike lenght and a lad take it and jump in.Barry kicked again and took a few bike lenghts out off lad in 2nd place and thats was his race.I tried to jump around and go for him but it was all to late and ended up taking 4th.

It was a great finish and a great battle to the finish line and and I am delighted with my 4th place,4 points on the board and 6 away from the upgrade, roll on next Sunday and the Des Hanlon.

Apologize for what? Tone of the race report was more or less the same, him and another few done everything and the rest were rubbish. Don't think anyone said he wasn't going to place.

Didnt have one on,the one I was using was a clubmates and he needed it today,so I reckon it just picked up others along the way man, going by previous races I reckon my heart rate was averaging around 155 and prob max at 170.

Come on now lads, he took a bit if a hammering over last few weeks on here cos of his ambitions and opinions. It's only 4th in an a4 race but its a start. I see a win soon, and let me tell u - a win is a win - even if its an egg and spoon race

Apologize to the internet. Love it.

Well done Pawlie, you needed a strong pair of legs to finish that off yesterday, ie. tough finish, uphill, poor road surface & into the wind, I was 3/4 way back in the bunch but even if I had the legs for a strong finish I wouldn't have made it through a wall of riders.

I think the initial bunch of A4s was whittled down at the finish, the 2 drags, the wind & the fast pace from Clonmel to Carrick (~46km/h) ended the race for quite a few.

I'm guessing that breakaways work better in A3 and A2/A1 because:
    1) the race is longer (if you get in a breakaway you really will suffer to try and stay away, peloton are more willing to let them off etc)
    2) guys/gals at this level are capable of putting in a huge effort to stay away

Thanks man,yep was very tough finish and I just happy to get 5 points on the board,it was a mad gallop for a few km's towards carrick, and at least we got around safely with no crashes either.

True about break aways, when one goes in A4 lads just want to hunt you down, where they should just leave enough distance where they think they getting away put really they wont be,they just be working harder, where maybe ten lads at front chasing bunch keep the pace steady and the breakaway insight, eventually the breakaway will tire as they will be working harder and use more energy, and if they are the strongest lads in race chances are they will still tire and be swallowed up.

I see how the lads work in a1's and 2's,its alot more tactical and more teamwork. With the lads training its amazing what you learn just watching them and listening to what they tell you about chasing a group, trying to attack, doing up and overs, and then forming trains for sprints. One thing that was drilled into me was never break a line doing up an overs.
