Been awhile since I had a great phone. Samsung galaxy S2 was my last phone. Yes it was a great phone but it kinda annoyed me in some ways like, I felt the phone was cheap (of course the phone wasnt) wifi was awful on it I felt and the battery life is questionable

    My budget is 400 euro

Basically looking for the best phone for my money please

    any recommendations please

400 out of contract, or 400 as part of a deal? Don't think you'd get much good outright for 400.

    Nexus 4?

I was torn between the Nexus 4 and the RAZR i.

I bought the Nexus on the logic that if I didn't like it, a mint condition opened Nexus will easily sell for what I paid for it. And then I could buy the RAZR.
Lets just say I still have the Nexus.

Could you buy a Nexus 4 below 400 euro? (brand new)

The Razor is a very very good phone, I have the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Its awesome. but the gf got the Razor few weeks ago. Very solid build nice design nice screen good battery feels great. And is worlds apart from the 'cheapy' feel the S2 had.

I would recommend it. Go into the shop and have a feel for it.

Nexus 4 FTW. €330 or so to buy the phone outright.

Then go for a SIM only, e-mobile are doing a good deal, €32 / month unlimited calls & texts and 15GB of data.

Big win is you own a SIM free top of the range phone, no long contract and a cheap SIM only monthly rolling contract you can walk from anytime you want.

The days of the likes of o2 locking us into long contracts with useless data plans are over.

    buy Nexus 4 online
get 48 months prepay micro sim.
€20, all texts, all mobile calls, 5GB data, 20 mins landline calls

Have a read of the Jiayu G3 thread, it really is an exceptional phone, 160-170 delivered, new version on the way though, could be here next month if its not delayed.

Nexus 4 and you have some change left over....

Buy a ballistic case for 40 quid - then you have 20 change for credit/bill...

Razr I is excellent, superb performanace, great screen, ultra thin, edge to edge screen, kevlar back plate,by far the best battery life ive ever seen.
Honestly i cant fault it for anything.
Ive used the galaxy S3 and the razr i is every bit as fast,i personally i prefer the slighty smaller screen on the razr i, ive grown to love some of the motorola stuff like smartactions.
The Nexus 4 by all accounts also seems a fantastic phone i just have not used one myself personally.

I really like the default ui and look of the razr as seen here http://www.razri.com/ie/?gclid=COq9weSz-rUCFeI92wodnEQA6Q
But its also nice to customize it to something like this ,my current favourite look :)

or wait on the galaxy s4 and get it on contract. will cost you maybe 200 on a 12 month contract i reckon.

theres some nice options out there. atm id be looking at nexus 4 though if i had to buy now as in immediately. dont like lack of expandable storage though ever

Surely the contract for a galaxy is a minimum of 18/24 months?

Or do you pay 200 upfront then are on the 12 month?

Just curious, not on billpay myself, nor will I ever if the above is true!

say 200 for the phone and maybe 40 a month for at least 12 months on some crappy plan.

If you were to buy and s4 or i-phone, you are easily talking 600 quid, the Nexus 4 is almost half that price and is easily in the same bracket.

There are plenty of SIM only deals that don't tie you into a long contract.

You need to consider the total cost of owning the phone and that's not only monetary cost -

    - 200 up front for a phone
    - a monthly bill for at least 12 months
    - tied to one phone (opportunity cost of getting a new phone)
    - tied to a contract (say you want to emigrate - tough luck you still have to pay all the monthly bills)

Google are doing to the mobile phone market what Ryanair did to the airline industry.

I thought 12 month contracts were done away with? I havent looked in the last month or so, but last time I did look, the minimum was 18 months for a decent phone.

You might get 12 month for SIM only, or for some entry level phone.

For the s3 I paid 150 upfront and then got a 12month contract and 35 euro each month.

They might give you the option of a shorter contract but you would probably end up paying more for the phone and a higher monthly rate

I'm in the market for a new phone myself. My Galaxy Nexus has given up the ghost - cracked screen and now won't charge. The screen alone will cost about €130 to fix so I'm looking at spending at least €150 to get it working again.
I love the phone but I reckon it's time to look at splashing out. Got it in November 11 with Vodafone but am not too keen on getting tied in with them for another 18 months. Might go SIM only and had been thinking about the Nexus 4 but the Razr looks a very nice piece of equipment too.

    Decisions decisions....

    Three have a €20 a month, 30 day contract.

350 flexi units (1 unit = 1 min of talk or 2 texts) and unlimited internets (+15GB)

Sorry for the bump but I have to report back

I picked up myself the motorola razr i and i absolutely adore it
I was very surprised when I saw it first on how small it is compared to the likes of a samsung S3 but that makes it even better for me. Its super fast and has a gorgeous screen. Im also delighted with the battery, as a previous owner of a S2, the battery drove me nuts but the motorola razr i has no complaints in that avenue

My only concern is getting a case and protective screen, can anyone recommend one please (especially a screen)
