Got a new corsair ax860 power supply and a gtx670 today and I hooked everything up and nothing worked.Rechecked my cables and found one wasn't plugged.Powered up and had a slight burning smell so plugged everything out.Now nothing, even with my old psu connected.HELP!!

Are you sure you put the modular cables in the appropriate connectors on the power supply? Any idea where the burning smell was coming from? There's a good chance just the psu or motherboard are dead.

No idea where the burning was coming from.yup everything was connected right.Think it could be the motherboard as with my old psu reconnected I'm still getting nothing.

What was the motherboard so I can add it to my 'do not buy list' :)

Where did you buy the parts from?

Are you sure the cables were connected back the same way? The PSU will only provide enough current that is required, it wont push more current through the boards than it wants to draw. Make sure nothing dropped onto any of the boards when you took it apart thus causing a short circuit somewhere. Chances are if you smelt burning something will be damaged. Do you have a multi-meter? if so check the voltage to the boards and see what you measure.

its an Asrock z77 pro4-m.Got the psu from hwvs.If its just the board thats gone then thats not too bad as I ordered an Asus Sabertooth yesterday.I have a multi-meter,where would I test on the board?

Check voltages from the PSU with it not connected to anything (refer to manual for connections). Make sure that the voltages that you read are within the specified voltages +12Vd.c. +5V d.c. etc. Then connect the supplies to the boards and recheck voltages. Chances are if something is fried then the voltages will drop once connected to the board.

Theres nothing in the manual about the connections.I assume I should be checking somewhere on the 24-pin?

I've never been so happy to see a UEFI screen!Removed my motherboard from my case and disconnected everything excluding the 24 pin and 8 pin power leads, then shorted the power button pins with my phase tester and it started straight up ,with no burning smells this time.Must be something in the case causing my problem.Time to start slowly rebuilding.

Possible short with the case/loose screw.

Seems the burning smell may have been coming from my HDD or my SSD since neither of them are working. Both were on the same sata power lead so I'm thinking this may be the culprit.I didn't change anything inside the case except the psu so I'm hoping there's nothing there causing this.I'm going to be uber careful when rebuilding tomorrow. Also the good folks at Amazon are replacing my ssd for free :D

    What PSU had you?

I have a ASRock B75 Pro3, Sockel 1155, ATX, with a be quiet! Pure Power L7 530 Watt PSU. Same burning smell. Interesting....

I also got it from Hardwareversand who are stubbornly refusing to reply to my emails.

I have a corsair AX860,the burning smell was my HDD getting fried.Think one of my cables was in the wrong slot on the psu end as the ssd that was on the same cable is also dead as a doornail.
