    Just want to share a recent experience I had with a physical therapist in Ballinteer
    About a year ago I developed a slight pain behind me right knee while running. I was never doing serious millage just some 5km in the summer. The pain was never really bad, went to a physio who though it was a tight hamstring and had 4 sessions. Pain never really went away and as I drive an hour to work each way it stared to bother me in the car and at night. Went to the GP who recommended 12 weeks with no exercise which I did, no improvement so went back to another physio who though it was a tight calf. I had three sessions and stopped running altogether.
    Having looked through boards said I’d try this lad in Balinteer who was recommended more in the hope that I wouldn’t have this low grade pain for the rest of my life rather than going back to running which I had totally given up.

    Anyway had a one hour session and its like I literally have a new leg, I am completely pain free and have been now for three weeks. I can’t believe it is possible after one session. I’m so cross with myself for not going sooner. I keep prodding my knee to see is it there.

    Anyway hopefully help to some injured amateur like myself!!

    GP = general practitioner
    From my own experience I am on my 4th doctor in about 8 years.
    1st one was a farmer, civil engineer and was a part time doctor. Need I say more. Seriously.
    2st one was found negligent in a high profile case that resulted in the death of the patient and prescribed me really strong pain killers without telling me that I could not drive with them or anything like that. The chemist informed me.
    3rd one had not a clue and when I had a shoulder injury, I told him that one of the guys in the martial arts club got a cortisone shot and it helped him. He was yeah, that sound like a good idea, wrote a letter, when to "specialist" who was supposed to examine me but you know these guys are "busy" chatting up nurses and the like. Did it fix it . eh no but he recommended to get another one :)
    4th one was a Sports Doctor. I went to him. He saw what the issue was in 2 mins and sent me to the physio he recommended. 2 or 3 trips and the problem was solved. I have gone back to him and he is great. I had ITBS and he told me to get a foam roller and do the following exercises from a youtube video. He is a marathon runner also so he understands that rest for long time is not something that sits well. I also know if he tells me that I need to rest then I actually need to. Someone telling a patient to rest for 12 weeks without any rehab or recommended cross training to keep up fitness is pure mental. Incidentally my current doctor has had many olympians as patients and I am very happy I changed.

    People need to realize that doctors don't have all the answers and there are good and bad ones just like good and bad plumbers. Some doctors are popular as they will prescribe you what you want and sign you off work when ever you feel like it but they may lack the one thing that you need which is to get you better. If you always leave with a prescription from the doc when you have a small thing wrong it is time to change doctor.
