Volvo V50 Will not Rev on Start

My 05 Volvo V50 Diesel 2L starts but will not rev over about 1200.
The car has required an anti skid for the past month but I have not got around to it.

I thought initially that the problem might be related to the cold and am running the Engine for it to warm up.

It was quite alarmng today, because of the cold I drove out of the housing estate at low speed and only realised that the problem existed when I was on a main road.

Is there anything that I can get a NON VOLVO mechanic to look at and please reccomend a good VOLVO mechanic anywhere in Leinster who is cheaper than Koping.

The oil light is on on ignition and then goes away.
    The oil is filthy.

There is no audible engine knock but the car shakes even in first gear and the engine is shaking like mad.

That sounds pretty serious, and probably expensive.

Try Scully Autocare in Clontarf. Hopefully the ex. Volvo master technician who was working there, is still working there.

The "Anti-skid urgent service" message is usually when the ABS/Traction Control unit has a problem. It could be a senor or it could be the more expensive module itself.

The car not revving above 1200 rpms could mean that it has gone into limp home mode where the car's computer restricts the revving to protect the engine from damage. It could be anything from a blocked or knackered DPF to an issue with one of the oxygen sensor or related to the oil issue. Either way I would get it to a garage a.s.a.p. and limit driving it to prevent doing even more damage.

Thanks very much ROR and Bazz a lad from the local garage popped over and reset the diagnostic codes.
Car started immediately no error messages on dash.

Had to take a sickie. Wouldn't for myself but for my Volvo?

If the underlying problems are still present then the car will go back into limp home mode sooner rather than later and the error messages will appear again.

Thanks Bazz it is booked in week after next. I don't believe there was an underlying problem. I suspect Ice on the acelerator pedal sensor.
