Veronica Mars (Movie)

Firstly, I would just like to say that Veronica Mars is my favourite TV show of all-time. I've watched quite a few shows but I've never come across another show like VM. There's just something special/magical about it. So if you're looking for a show to watch, I couldn't recommend Veronica Mars any more.

Secondly, and most importantly, as fans of VM will know, since VM's cancellation in 2007 there has been talk of a Veronica Mars movie. Rob Thomas, Kristen Bell etc. all want it to happen.

Why I'm creating this thread today is because there has been some movement regarding a VM movie recently. A month or so ago, Kristen Bell tweeted, out of the blue, urging her followers to send an email to VeronicaMarsMovie@warnerbros.com. This was the first time she had done so in quite a while. And then a few weeks later, she met up with Rob Thomas (VM's creator) and tweeted about it. She also said to Rob, via Twitter, that she would be seeing him soon. In the past few months, she has also dropped other hints about a movie potentially happening and she has been tweeting about Veronica Mars, in general, more than usual. And then just last week, she sent another tweet about emailing Warner Bros. about the movie.

    Here's the tweet: https://twitter.com/IMKristenBell/status/309121919205134337

Basically, I'm writing this because there still seems to be a chance and if enough people emailed, tweeted etc. Warner Bros., then hopefully the movie would get made.

So, if there are any Veronica Mars fans reading this, it'd be great if you could just take a few minutes to write an email and send it to VeronicaMarsMovie@warnerbros.com. Also, when I send an email, I usually copy and paste it and send it through their customer service page as well just to ensure they see it there as well. So you might want to do that as well.

    http://www2.warnerbros.com/web/main/help/customer_service.jsp

If a movie were to be made, it would mean so much to me and every Veronica Mars fan around the world. And every email is helpful so even if you haven't seen VM yet, and you wanted to send one, that'd be really appreciated. :)

I'm in two minds. I loved the character and the first two series but the third one was very patchy, downright awful in places, and it's been six years already.

^ Kristen is over the hill now, besides the show tanked after the first season....it got cancelled for a good reason!

Over the hill in her early 30's? I don' think so.

Also, I think it's fairly obvious that the writers will factor her age into and perhaps follow her mid-career in the FBI maybe..

Shows getting cancelled means f*ck all really. Decent shows get cancelled all the time.

It has/had a huge following and there's definitely a market for a movie.

Guess we can never escape the cancellation boasting. Given that it is a member of the too large "imaginative show that got cancelled because viewers have no idea what's good for 'em" camp, 'good reason' isn't what I'd call it. And if you think Kristen Bell is over the hill, well your standards must be a touch on the ridiculous side.

I'd definitely throw some money towards Kickstarter if it wasn't restricted to US only, which is a real shame although I guess par for the course with the frustrating world of film rights. Season three was undeniably a step down in quality, but even the brief teaser for a hypothetical season four included with the DVD suggests there's life in the character yet. Hopefully a half decade has let the ideas germinate suitably, and the limited running time of a film means they can play to their strengths and stick with one case ;)

Can see more cult shows going down the Kickstarter route in future. Under explored avenue for large scale film and television production this far.

Great show. The outcry for international shipping even after a few hours means I'm going to hold off on donating. I think they may add it. If they don't, Ill donate before the deadline anyway.

In a world of Idol's and X-factors, of big brothers and stars dancing in ballrooms and on ice.....cleverly written shows deserve some god damned praise.

Over a third of the way there already.

I'd donate for the Blu Ray if I could get it.

And the video for it was brilliant. Just seeing them all together like that.

What money did he say Kristen had?

    what would the story be?

    Last paragraph from Rob's message
Life has taken Veronica away from Neptune. In the years since spoiling Keith's chances to be reelected sheriff, Veronica hasn't taken a case. But something big is about to bring her back home and back to her calling. My goal is to include as many of your favorite characters as possible. It is, after all, time for Veronica’s 10-year high school reunion. Keep in mind that the more money we raise, the cooler movie we can make. A two million dollar fundraising total probably means cross words are exchanged at the class reunion. Three million? We can afford a full-on brawl. Ten million? Who knows... For some reason the Neptune High class reunion takes place on a nuclear submarine! A Hobbit shows up! There’s a Bollywood end-credit dance number! I’ve always wanted to direct Bill Murray. We’ll figure out something cool. Hey, if that total goes high enough, I’ll bet the good folks at Warner Bros. will agree a sequel is a good idea.

Spoilered in case someone wants to see it without knowing the plot

Just started watching that this year, so pretty excited about it. Only on season two...so I hear it goes bad. Lol at her being over the hill.

I happen to be in the US at the moment, I think I'll throw a tenner in the ring. Decent set of rewards too. Really silly not to have international shipping though.

Hopefully the movie will be of similar quality to the first two seasons, that third one was patchy!

Yeah the rewards are pretty decent, I wouldn't mind contributing as the show is awesome, and she looks like avril lavigne, can't go wrong. The video they made for it was really good...in space perhaps.

I've seen loads of replies like this
I'd easily justify giving them $1,000. But as it is I only pledged $10. I guess they want to make sure they get my $25 purchase of the retail dvd in Australia? So yeah...instead of $1,000 they get my $40.... They seem to be limiting themselves.

    Hopefully they will change it.

You talk some awful crap Rich.. it was a far better show than the tween muck you watch on The CW and ABCF.

Over 1 million backers in 4 hours? Superb!

Gonna throw in some money myself... the first season was some of the finest TV of it's time.

Gobsmacked!....people wasting 2 million on a direct to DVD flop......

Except for the numerous assurances that it's getting a theatrical release and already has such distribution lined up? And 'wasting' money on the delivery of something that fans have been lusting after for six years?

Despite your frequent claims to the contrary, ratings are not the be all and end all - indeed, the facilities now exist to fund and create quality content without relying on the baffling viewing habits of the American general public. The sheer level of support this has enjoyed in a couple of hours illustrates that there is still much love out there for a series that was built on strongly defined characters, strong writing and memorable narratives. It's actually somewhat refreshing to see something like it still attracting so much acclaim and support a whole half decade after cancellation.

In the words of another farcically cancelled show that earned its deserved, beautiful feature length curtain call:
Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse... but you take a boat in the air that you don't love... she'll shake you off just as sure as the turn of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she ought to fall down... tells you she's hurting before she keels. Makes her a home.

    Can't stop the signal.

That 1 million in 4 hours is a kickstarter record, shows how much people want this.

God, I am so excited about this. I pledged money already, I can always get the tshirt sent to someone in the US. Or, even better, Rob Thomas' tweet about sorting international fans out will be a reality.

Edit: At 1.5 million already. Broke first-day records. Could go on to be the biggest kickstarter project ever.

Words can't describe how much I loved this show, Veronica is the best female character in any tv show ever in my opinion.

The money raising idea is great, I can see many shows following down that avenue in future, I had given up any hope of a film at this stage.

Donated. Hopefully I wont need to, but VPN & DNS Ip spoofing services can easily bypass any location restrictions. Would have liked the physical copy though.

    Firefly kickstarter next please!

Well we know Joss doesn't like to be bored, making Much Ado About Nothing when he just had a bit of free time. And the cast are apparently up for it, according to that recent special.

Also Joss is a Veronica Mars fan, since it was him saying he watched it that made me check it out. Plus his cameo in the series. Not forgetting COrdelai and Willow's appearances.

So he may be inspired by this.

But they already made a Firefly film and a good one at that. It's hard to see where they can go from where the last film left off.

Firefly is done. I'm not going to complain if they make another one or anything, but Serenity is as perfect a conclusion to the tale as we could hope for.

Veronica Mars is different. There's life in the character yet, and TBH after the relative disappointment of season three I think they have the opportunity for a higher quality send-off (and a sequel or two if this kickstarter continues along its path ;)). I think the somewhat uneven third season of Arrested Development is a reason that show's return is so anticipated too.

Yeah, I'm happy to let Friefly go as well, but wouldn't say no to a new movie if announced.

But looks like this is definitely going to hit the target anyway so let's see just how far beyond it goes. And if they sort out international shipping they'll be able to fund 2 or 3 movies. :)

I always liked how they left it..

I liked the original Jeremy Piven series of Cupid. The remake was just ok.

Just hope this doesn't go the way of the Dead Like Me movie which lost a lot of what made the series good.

    And Shawn Ryan
Very interested to see how this Veronica Mars kickstarter goes. Could be a model for a Terriers wrap up film.

I was/am a big Chuck fan but I'm not sure if a film would be a good idea. It ended when it should have and it's not as if there were any loose ends.

We have reached 2 million dollars. Turns out people do like a blonde in a hamster ball.
