Can I accept a job 1 day a week?

I applied for jsb middle of January, but because of messing around from my old boss still has not been awarded. At the minute I am on SWA while I wait for my JSB.

I had an interview for a job yesterday I had thought the job was full time but it's not it's only Saturday work. I got a call today offering me the position I have to let them know tomorrow if I want it.

Can I accept the job? I have a feeling that if I accept it the dole wont pay me the other days as I have accepted a job knowing its only 1 day a week. I would obviously still be looking for work as 1 day a week is not enough for anyone. I do want to accept it tho as it looks better on CV to be doing something. I wont be able to afford to take it tho if it means that I wont be eligible for jsb.

Can anyone clarify this for me?

    Thanks in advance.

This is based on nothing more than personal opinion, I'm sure someone who knows for sure will be along soon.

I would say congratulations on the job, and go for it. You're definitely 'allowed' to take part-time work and keep looking for a full-time position when you're on the dole. I doubt they'll hold it against you, if anything, they'll be impressed. (I assume :)

(You could call citizen's information or ask in the sw office if no-one here knows for sure that it won't negatively affect your jsb claim)

    Bascially,
the best way to sum this up would be that you can work and be on the social at the same time. However, your social payment just gets deducted for the hours you worked.

I'm sure someone else can state this better... But imagine if you are getting €188 a week from the social welfare. But you work one day a week aswell and earn €70 euro for that days work. So you'd only get €118 euro payment from the social welfare for that week.

Not wanting to add more uninformed opinion, but i will anyway...
I thought you got paid 188 for 6 days/week, so if you work one, you get paid 5/6 of 188, 156.66, and keep whatever you earn, otherwise what would be the point?
Dont even know if you are deducted, seein as you could say its the 7th day you are working...

On JSB you loose 1/5th for each day worked. Go back to your local office and sign casually ( yellow dockets/ X's & O's). You will loose €37.60 for working that 1 day.

Thanks everyone. I don't mind loosing some of my jsb I just obviously couldn't afford to loose it all.

I was convinced I'd have to turn it down I'm delighted now I don't :)
