Normally I'd say no, but since Saturday I cant get more than 220KB to astraweb. Have tried it on 3 different UPC connections and all are the same.

I have no problem using astraweb. Even on the phone over wifi I am getting over 2500KB/s. Laptop runs at about 3500KB/s.

I notice with Eircom, I get faster speeds using SSL and port 443 than I do on the default port 119

Yes, I am using port 443 too for astraweb so maybe that is the difference i.e. that they cannot distinguish the usenet traffic from any other encrypted traffic.

I normally get 18MB/sec, getting less than 1 now. Something fishy considering the UPC speedtest gives full speed.

Yep. Same here. Astraweb coming in at 800KB on a 120mb connection.

There is another thread about this from a day or two ago. I changed to newsdemon and am getting full speed so i'd say its an astraweb issue i think. It goes full speed at night and gets throttled during the day with astraweb. Had a similar issue with them a few months ago.

It had been steaming along for me for a few weeks but the last week seems to have gotten dog slow. Can't tell if it's UPC or Astraweb. Perhaps UPC are specifically throttling astraweb and all other will follow? Ugh, who know.

astraweb seems back to normal speeds now on upc 120 mb

I've tried using 2 different providers on ssl and non-ssl, 563 and 443.

It goes up to max speed for 2 or 3 seconds and slowly degrades to 0kb/s.

Wired. 120mb. Usenet and Newsdemon. Both the same.

    Must be UPC.

I've been using Easynews which is a part of Highwinds and I haven't noticed any speed difference of late, none at all.

T*w*e*a*knews to working perfectly this direction, and I'm easily hitting 9.5MB/s here on a 120Mb line.

perhaps my problem is NewsgroupDirect or my synology 212j

I'm getting far less from them. They are your problem.

Never buy a resale. Always buy from a Tier 1 provider. PM me for advice.
